If pouring water extinguishes fire for the same type of thing, then when extinguishing fire in the world, seeking water, or blowing out a candle or lamp with breath, the flame will be extinguished, just like that, observing fire and wind with direct perception is called being established in the world with direct perception. When the continuation of the flame itself is interrupted, the flame will also be extinguished, just like firewood turning into ashes and charcoal. Observing with direct perception that different continuations arise later and the previous ones disappear is also called being established in the world with direct perception. An example of the existence of minute parts of moments in gross impermanence is: the part of the thread exists in the cloth, just like the thread end falling off; or the part of the dust exists in the lump of clay, just like decomposing into extremely fine dust, like this, observing clay and dust with direct perception is called being established in the world with direct perception. Showing that what seems to be constant is actually an impermanent continuation, for example, the continuation of water has the difference between clear and turbid, and the front and back appear to be different, and the clear continuation flowing is also different from front to back; or flame and consciousness, when different continuations arise one after another, appear to be different, and being in a similar continuation is also different from front to back, like this, observing similarity and difference with direct perception is called being established in the world with direct perception. If an inverted sphere filled with water, the later drops of water will not accommodate the previous drops, just like that; or when the flower withers, the fruit will form, like this, observing the previous and the later with direct perception is called being established in the world with direct perception. For other things, these methods should also be applied as appropriate. Using metaphors to show that clinging to conditioned things is suffering, just like the existence of the laws of birth, old age, sickness, and death; or, all feelings are inherently painful, just like carrying a heavy load on the shoulders and moving it from side to side, so-called happiness is also suffering; or, any of the four behaviors, if continued for a long time, is also like suffering. Using metaphors to show that all dharmas are without self, conditioned dharmas are the aggregation of causes and conditions.

Accomplished by... it is like assembling a chariot or building a house. As for unconditioned dharmas, to say that there is a self in their nature is like searching for rabbit horns in the sky. The example of showing that the other world exists and that the results of karma are not in vain is like the manner in which it appears in the Sutra of Questions by the Noble Bhadrapāla. In short, within the three pitakas, wherever the manner of examples appears, it should be explained according to its respective characteristics. This is the sixth chapter on the characteristics of examples of one's own kind. In the characteristics of complete comprehension and complete purification: Whatever is the characteristic of directly observing that, and the characteristic of directly observing what abides in that, and the characteristic of closely applying the example of one's own kind, one should know that the characteristic of complete comprehension is because it is definitely for accomplishing that. The characteristic of that which was spoken is explained. The so-called complete comprehension is that if one directly observes the dharmas, understands them through inference, and closely applies the example of one's own kind, then when these three are combined, it is certain that accomplishment will be achieved. This is called the characteristic of complete comprehension. Mentioning direct observation and the other three separately is a distinction of characteristics. Counting complete comprehension as one is because it is one in the sense of accomplishment. If these three are possessed, then one is certain of the meaning. For example, having heard of a past particular event, if one becomes doubtful and asks, "Who has seen it like that?" it is like direct observation. If one asks, "How is it evident that it is so?" it is like inference. If one asks, "What else is similar to that?" it is like an example of one's own kind. If these three agree, it is like trust. Since sentient beings possess ignorance, pride, doubt, and so on, when explaining the realm of wisdom that is superior to humans and transcends the world, due to the influence of ignorance, one will misunderstand the meaning; due to the influence of pride, one will dislike what is familiar; due to the influence of doubt, one will not trust the correct teachings. Therefore, it is also necessary to determine it by the characteristic of complete comprehension. This is the seventh chapter on complete comprehension.
