Or, for the manifestation of the moon or the full moon, even the clock and the sound of striking cymbals seem to become time, therefore, it can be inferred that a moment faster than even nāda (梵文,Devanagari: नाद,IAST: nāda,Literal meaning: sound) exists, which is the characteristic of inferring dharma and cause. All phenomena exist in a continuum of moments. Just as there is a continuum in this life, there will also be a continuum in future lives. Therefore, the next world also exists, because it can be observed that beings abide in various ways, so it should be understood through inference. For example, humans and others stand and walk, livestock and others bend and walk, snakes and others crawl and walk, birds and others fly in the sky, fish and others float in the water, and in such ways, even without learning, one can know various different ways and efforts. Where do some dwell? What food do some eat? What virtues do some have? What faults do some have? And so on, various different behaviors and so on. Those who live on land cannot bear to live in the depths of the water. Those who live in the water cannot bear to live on land. Cold cannot withstand heat. Heat cannot withstand cold, and so on. They cannot do things that are not their own nature. And among them, some can be learned if taught, and can be accustomed to if meditated upon. Some cannot be learned even if taught, and cannot be accustomed to even if meditated upon. Oxen and horses and others are more skilled and faster than humans, but can also be used by humans. Lice and fleas and others are smaller than humans, but they eat humans. The ways of being born from the four sources of birth are also different. Like this, because it is possible to directly observe various sentient beings abiding, it can be inferred that the next world also exists in that way, which is the characteristic of inferring cause, karma, and dharma. In this way, since the next world exists and sentient beings abide in samsara, the differences such as happiness and suffering also arise from the causes of karma from previous lives. Because it can be observed that sentient beings experience happiness and suffering, and engage in virtuous and non-virtuous actions, therefore, experiencing the maturation of happiness and suffering in the next world is also abiding in virtue and non-virtue, and karma in this way.

Measuring without wasting the maturation of karma is the characteristic of inference of dharma and cause. These are the characteristics of inference, but they are not to be taken as the valid means of inference. The fifth chapter, which is the complete purification of inference. Furthermore, regarding the characteristic of combining examples of one's own kind, for all worldly things that are the object of destruction and arising of internal and external actions, closely combine in a way that is known to all; closely combine by focusing on sufferings such as birth; closely combine by focusing on lack of autonomy; closely combine by focusing on external perfections and declines, which are known to all in the world. These, and forms such as these, should be known as the characteristic of closely combining examples of one's own kind, as such, its characteristic is explained. For various sentient beings, the treatises taught by the Sugatas are, in order to prove what is not established in the world, and to incorporate what is not understood into understanding, therefore the teacher proclaims, whether it is the object of direct perception, or what should be known as inference, as an aid to dispel doubt, one should indicate with examples of one's own kind. From this, the destruction of internal and external actions, and the three from arising to lack of autonomy, refer to impermanence, suffering, and selflessness. By closely combining examples with these three, these three dharmas should also be proven. Momentariness also transforms into the meaning of impermanence, one should know that arising and destruction are included within the meaning indicated by example. Indicating external perfections and declines with examples is to prove that there is another world, and that the fruits of karma are not wasted. There is only one characteristic of example, which is to prove it directly in the world. What is that? Those who do not possess truthful hearing and contemplation, even if they directly perceive the impermanence of actions, they grasp them with similar continuities, holding them together by gathering one with another, viewing them as the characteristic of permanence. From indicating impermanence with examples, conditioned dharmas are of a destructible nature, being easily destroyed by the antidote of destruction, the antidote of moisture is water falling on fire, this refers to fire and conditioned things.
