Therefore, because of clinging to characteristics, it is called "feeling," etc. The characteristics of each dharma are merely examined, and they are not fully established. Therefore, it is called the emptiness of self-nature. Anupalambha shunyata (Tibetan: ཨ་ནུ་པ་ལམྦྷ་ཤཱུ་ནྱ་ཏཱ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: अनुपलम्भशून्यता, Sanskrit Romanization: anupalambha śūnyatā, Literal Chinese Meaning: Unobtainable Emptiness) is called unobtainable emptiness, which means that the aspects of the past, future, and present dharmas, belonging to the three times, are not something to be clung to, and things do not exist independently. Therefore, it is called unobtainable emptiness. Abhava shunyata (Tibetan: ཨ་བྷཱ་བ་ཤཱུ་ནྱ་ཏཱ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: अभावशून्यता, Sanskrit Romanization: abhāva śūnyatā, Literal Chinese Meaning: Non-existence Emptiness) is called the emptiness of non-existence, because there is no self-nature that can be grasped from non-existence. Therefore, it is called the emptiness of non-existence. Svabhava shunyata (Tibetan: སྭ་བྷཱ་བ་ཤཱུ་ནྱ་ཏཱ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: स्वभावशून्यता, Sanskrit Romanization: svabhāva śūnyatā, Literal Chinese Meaning: Self-nature Emptiness) is called the emptiness of self-nature, because the dharmas arising from aggregation are not produced autonomously, but arise dependently. Because there is no self-nature, it is called the emptiness of self-nature. Abhava svabhava shunyata (Tibetan: ཨ་བྷཱ་བ་སྭ་བྷཱ་བ་ཤཱུ་ནྱ་ཏཱ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: अभावस्वभावशून्यता, Sanskrit Romanization: abhāva svabhāva śūnyatā, Literal Chinese Meaning: Non-existence Self-nature Emptiness) is called the emptiness of the self-nature of non-existence, because the seeing and knowing that realize non-existence are called the self-nature of non-existence. Both this seeing and knowing are not done by seeing, nor are they done by knowing, because their self-nature is empty. Therefore, it is called the emptiness of the self-nature of non-existence. Regarding the names of Shamatha and Vipashyana, Shamastha (Tibetan: ཤ་མ་སྠ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: शमस्थ, Sanskrit Romanization: śamastha, Literal Chinese Meaning: Tranquility Abiding) is called Shamediti Shamastha. Shama is tranquility, and Stha is abiding. Because the objects such as form distract the mind, meditation is practiced, and the mind is focused on one point. Therefore, it is called tranquility abiding. Vipashyana (Tibetan: བི་པ་ཤྱ་ན་, Sanskrit Devanagari: विपश्यना, Sanskrit Romanization: vipaśyanā, Literal Chinese Meaning: Insight) is called Vi, which is Vishesha, meaning difference or excellence, and Pashyana is seeing or observing. Generally, it refers to the nature of realizing the self-nature of things excellently with wisdom, and it is called Vipashyana. Yoga (Tibetan: ཡོ་ག་, Sanskrit Devanagari: योग, Sanskrit Romanization: yoga, Literal Chinese Meaning: Yoga) is called Yujir Yoga, which is the name of the meditation that combines Shamatha and Vipashyana, and it is called Yoga. Yonishammanaskara (Tibetan: ཡོ་ནི་ཤ་མ་ན་སྐཱ་ར་, Sanskrit Devanagari: योनिशमनस्कार, Sanskrit Romanization: yoniśamanaskāra, Literal Chinese Meaning: Proper Attention) is called Yoni Upaya, which means method or continuum. Sha is Shanasati, which refers to using and showing that method and way. Generally, it refers to destroying desire by meditating on ugliness, and abandoning ignorance by meditating on dependent origination, etc. It is the name of practicing the method properly.

This is called proper attention. For example, dividing the four noble truths into sixteen aspects. It is called "Caturāryasatya (藏文,चतुरार्यसत्य,caturāryasatya,Four Noble Truths)", where "Catura (藏文,चतुर,catura,Four)" means four, "Ārya (藏文,आर्य,ārya,Noble)" means noble, and "Satya (藏文,सत्य,satya,Truth)" means truth, which are the four: suffering, origin, cessation, and path, just as the noble ones see them as true. However, ordinary beings, due to their perverted views, do not see them as they are, hence they are called the Four Noble Truths. "Duḥkhasatya (藏文,दुःखसत्य,duḥkhasatya,Truth of Suffering)" is the truth of suffering. Among conditioned phenomena with outflows, those that are pleasing become suffering due to the suffering of change. Those that are displeasing become suffering due to suffering. Other phenomena besides these become suffering due to the suffering of conditioned phenomena. The five aggregates are associated with the three sufferings, hence it is called the truth of suffering. The term "Samudaya (藏文,समुदय,samudaya,Truth of Origin)" comes from "Samudayatya smāt karmakleśalakṣaṇāt (藏文,समुदयत्यास्मात्कर्मक्लेशलक्षणात्,samudayatya smāt karmakleśalakṣaṇāt,from the characteristics of karma and afflictions)", which refers to the arising of suffering from the characteristics of karma and afflictions. Among these, afflictions refer to attachment and so on, which desire to be reborn and arise again in the three realms. Karma refers to non-virtuous and virtuous actions with outflows, hence it is called the truth of origin. The term "Nirodha (藏文,निरोध,nirodha,Truth of Cessation)" comes from "Nirodhyante 'smin sarvakleśa iti (藏文,निरोध्यन्तेअस्मिन्सर्वक्लेशाइति,nirodhyante 'smin sarvakleśa iti,in this, all afflictions cease)", which refers to the attainment of cessation, because all afflictions cease, hence it is called the truth of cessation. The term "Mārga (藏文,मार्ग,mārga,Truth of the Path)" comes from "Mārgayānty anena nirodhaṃ iti (藏文,मार्गयान्त्यनेननिरोधमिति,mārgayānty anena nirodhaṃ iti, through this, one seeks cessation)", which refers to seeking, indicating, pointing to, or attaining cessation through this path, hence it is called the truth of the path. The term "Anitya (藏文,अनित्य,anitya,Impermanence)" comes from "Pratyeyāndhīnatvādā anitya (藏文,प्रत्येयान्धीनत्वादाअनित्य,pratyeyāndhīnatvādā anitya, because it depends on conditions, it is impermanent)", which refers to being impermanent because it depends on conditions. When conditions gather, it arises; when conditions separate, it ceases; it has no autonomy, hence it is called impermanent. The term "Duḥkha (藏文,दुःख,duḥkha,Suffering)" comes from "Duḥkhena pīḍārthakatvāt (藏文,दुःखेन पीडार्थकतवात्,duḥkhena pīḍārthakatvāt,because it has the meaning of harm through suffering)", which refers to suffering because of harm. The term "Śūnya (藏文,शून्य,śūnya,Emptiness)" comes from "Ātmīyadṛṣṭi vipakṣa (藏文,आत्मियदृष्टि विपक्ष,ātmīyadṛṣṭi vipakṣa,antidote to the view of self)", which refers to being the antidote to the view of self, because there is no self, it is emptiness, hence it is called emptiness. The term "Anātma (藏文,अनात्म,anātma,No-self)" comes from "Anātmādṛṣṭi vivakṣe anātma (藏文,अनात्मदृष्टि विवक्षे अनात्म,anātmādṛṣṭi vivakṣe anātma,no-self is spoken to eliminate the view of self)", which refers to being the antidote to the view of self, because the self and sentient beings, etc., as conceived by non-Buddhists, do not exist.
