Which chapter is the third. The wise Shali Hotra, Being in the position of a horse, The well-learned and accomplished one, Again asked him: How did the horse come to be? How is it suitable for offering and sacrifice? Which king was it initially, Who used it as a mount? What are the four lineages of the horse? How did it become like that? Why did it become like that? Please know these things. Having heard those words, Shali Hotra said: Here, the king's law is the most excellent, Able to fully protect the lands. That can also be accomplished through the army, The most excellent in the army are the horses. Therefore, for those skilled in their own benefit, The king's dharma, benefit, desire, And in all forms, One should strive to protect the horses. Religion, fame, the medicine of desire, Even those skilled in treatises should rely on. Therefore, how they arose from gods and humans, Lineage and close lineage, and lifespan, Age, auspicious and inauspicious, Crown, face, and spots, The order of luster and gait, The remedy for bad omens, armpits, The act of birth and riding, Absence of disease, increase of disease, And the treatment of the ears, Likewise, the arising of treatment. How the order is as it is, Hair color, mixed color differences, Pure hair color and eyes, Nature, courage, and the characteristics of autumn birth, All these, in brief, I will explain to you in detail. The gods divided the womb-born and the non-womb-born, Into two ways of arising. In the past, when the world was destroyed, When this world did not exist, By making a fire offering to the giving fire, First Brahma arose, Then the male horse, then the excellent mare, Arose in their respective birthplaces. Furthermore, the mother of beings, In the sacrifice offering of Brahma, The goddess of fortune born from tears, Joyfully received with folded hands. From her limbs arose, The horses became Brahmin and other lineages. From the mouth and arms, thighs, And feet in order, From left and right arose male and female, Brahma thus created the horse. When churning the ocean of milk, The horse and nectar arose together. Its name is Utsa.

It is said that the sound is like a great cloud. When moving with force from that ocean to the sky, the power of the Asuras and the gods fought, and the two hind legs were grabbed. The mighty and powerful one pulled, and the hips were slightly damaged. Therefore, horses still cannot quickly lift their hind legs, and when resting, the hind legs are lifted slowly in turn. The fierce son of Brahma, by a curse, became an owl. The pleasing, the mind's offering, became a doe, and the two united. From this, various eggs were born, and many appeared. The dust below the navel, burned by fire, fell like ashes, and from this also appeared various colors, different male and female donkeys. The sound is rough and sharp, the nature is rough, and the feet are also rough. That also appeared with the horse. Residing in the place of the Lord of Beings. Then those ignorant people destroyed his fire-offering house. They killed him and bound him, cut grass to eat, and cursed him to become like gods and humans. That horse was depressed in his heart and prayed to the Lord of Beings. Then he was pleased with this and obtained this excellent reward. In the horse sacrifice, he was killed, swayed on the battlefield, and gave alms well, may you obtain merit. Similarly, may the horse become the most excellent of the places of offering. With faith to the Shramanas and Brahmins, if horses are given as alms, as many hairs as the horse has, one will be born in the heavens that many times. The horse given as alms will also become the most excellent of beings. Then the Lord of Beings, gathered with words, on the snowy mountain, carried Shali Hotra, and played with the sages. The powerful Utsa Salava, riding it, tormented the gods. All the gods, desiring eminence, prayed to Shali Hotra. Then, in order for the gods to ride, he gave as they wished. The moon is white, the great god is, the green pervading god is a yellow horse. The sun is the color of agate, the fire god is red, and Yama is black. The water god is like a white lotus, the blue and variegated Gemini, the two sons are red, the wind god, and the other gods are various.
