I eat fruits and other foods, I do not live in the gathering of poor relatives. Whether it is good or bad, Any action is the same. The body must be carefully protected, What is the use of being attached to wealth? You, with the value of great merit, Have bought the boat of the body. Before it is broken, Cross the ocean of suffering! When the moon of the time of suffering is waxing, Before it is discovered by the great planet of death, Until then, one should live cautiously, One's own affairs should be done according to the Dharma. When Consciousness separates and the eyes do not move, Hiccups occur continuously and the breath reaches its end, Like being led to a cliff in the dark, What use are children, wife, and relatives at that time? With a heart of compassion, subdue the senses, rejoice in contentment, And with a mind of detachment and manifest joy, do the work of eating fallen fruits under the trees. Wearing long tree bark, proclaiming a beautiful name like "Victorious One," When will this broken body, controlled by Yama in Varanasi, be abandoned? Holding the scriptures is liberation, Physical exhaustion is not the cause of liberation, By taming the mind with wisdom, Liberation is near at hand. Cut off the faults of wrongdoing, What is the use of cutting off the head? If there is no Dharma garment in the heart, What is the benefit of the outer robe? For sentient beings, when The heart is moistened with compassion, That is liberation and wisdom, Ashes, matted hair, and robes are not liberation. Whoever is peaceful in youth, I know that he is truly peaceful. When the aggregates are completely exhausted, Why cannot one attain peace? Friends and relatives in the cemetery, After the smoke dissipates, they return. Who goes together with oneself? It is karma, therefore one should cultivate virtue. For those who are extremely afflicted, Who act contrary to the Dharma, And the wealth that submits to enemies, Should not become one's own wealth. Craving the good deeds of the holy ones, extremely restraining oneself, Everywhere being scolded and feared by people, constantly dwelling in suffering. Whoever enjoys without restraint, using speech as the root of survival, Nurtures vulgar people who do not distinguish between caste and non-caste. Without the wisdom to distinguish between caste and non-caste, Completely abandoning learning and discipline, In order to fill the belly

Only wanting praise, what is the difference between a person and livestock? Visible and invisible, the great source of merit is intellect. Therefore, surpassing other pursuits, one should fully grasp wisdom. From a hundred people, a hero is born; from a thousand, a wise person emerges; from a hundred thousand, a sage appears; none at all may be born. The wise, with their wisdom, at all times, even in old age, should learn. If it does not bear fruit here, it is easy to obtain in other lives. Even when white hair and wrinkles arrive, one should accumulate knowledge, wherever extensive learning goes, the corpse will not go there. A king and one with merit, these two are not the same; a king is respected in his own country, one with merit is respected everywhere. One with merit, even if they have flaws, those who love merit will not grieve. Even if the moon has blemishes, the steadfast will happily gaze upon it. There is no adornment of the body like merit, no suffering of the body like the karma of the mind, no protector of the body like patience, no friend like generosity. The noble, even if dwelling far away, merit itself becomes the messenger, carrying the fragrance of Ketaka, the bee itself will come. One should strive for merit, what is the use of an arrogant posture? A cow without milk, even if a bell is hung on it, will not be bought. Time is short, the manifestations of wisdom are many, the length of life is also unknown, first, like taking milk from water, one should attend to what is precious. Many great stars have risen, even if the moon, becoming the ornament of the earth, has risen, where the sun sets, it will become night, except for the sun, the names of rising and setting are not called. If something has risen, there is no darkness, and it is radiant. The rising of the sun is the best, what is the use of other risings? Whatever a person does, if they accomplish one thing and reach the end, the mind becomes noble, why need so much? Just as the full moon illuminates the earth, the assembly of many stars cannot do. The arising of merit lies in oneself, the arising of substance lies in merit, why complain about people? Merit is attained through effort, and effort also resides in oneself, others say one has merit, who lives like that?
