Just as garlic does not abandon its inherent foul smell, even if one learns many philosophical treatises, it is impossible to abandon the characteristics of a bad nature. A holy person's son does not have a lotus on his face, and a prostitute's son does not grow horns on his head. However one may pretend, it is the nature of chaff. The words spoken from the mouth are different, and the thoughts in the mind are different. Alas! A foolish wise person, who can change this nature? One strives to collect debts, and always abandons virtues. Taking faults and abandoning virtues, a bad person is like a sieve. If one refutes a good person, one will not trust even a holy person. If a child burns his mouth with milk, he will blow on yogurt before drinking it. At night, the reflection of stars appears in the lake, and a swan mistakes them for lotus roots and rejects them. During the day, even though the lotus roots are clearly visible, it does not eat them. Having been refuted for telling lies, one becomes suspicious even of the truth. A woman's food is doubled, her deceit is quadrupled, her shame is sextupled, and her desire is said to be octupled. Not giving, not serving, not offering, not respecting, not being stable, not being diligent, in short, unbearable is a woman. When carried away by Garuda, the White Lotus Naga said: Telling secret words to a woman, her life will end because of that. Causing the decline of Dharma and worldly affairs, becoming an obstacle to heaven and liberation, being the root of all harms, therefore, one should always abandon another's wife. If a guru gives even a single verse to a disciple, what can be given to repay it? That thing does not exist in this world. One should completely abandon busyness, and if one cannot abandon it, then associate with holy people, that is its medicine. One should completely abandon desire, and if one cannot abandon it, then generate desire for liberation, that is its medicine. Useless relatives are no different from others, even if they are outsiders, if they are beneficial, they are relatives. Diseases that arise together, such as rheumatism, are like laughing medicine. Like half the water in a pot held with effort, if one is honored on the head, the person inside will be angry. Whoever in his heart

Those who follow me, though far away, are near; If the mind does not dwell on it, though nearby, it is far. Living together with the non-virtuous, Is like water and lotus, unable to blend. Virtuous people, though dwelling far away, Bring joy like the moon shining on the water lily. If you want friendship to last, These three things should not be done: Gambling, financial dealings, And speaking secretly about wives. How can milk come from a horn? Nectar drips from reed flowers. If a woman is true, Lotuses will grow even on dry land. A person completely lacking merit, Even if they obtain enjoyment, they do not know how to enjoy it. Like a dog at a great snow lake, though thirsty, it only licks its tongue. Those who work in this world, Cannot carry provisions for the road without pay. Without showing the humility of a beggar, In the next life, they will carry a hundredfold. Rather than abandoning one's own wealth and departing, A noble person should give alms. Since wealth is not abandoned even in death, Know that a miser is like a giver. Fearing poverty from giving alms, A miser does not give. Because it is certain to perish, A wise person gives wealth. Even half a portion of food, Why not give it to those who beg? Wealth that is in accordance with desire, When will it arise? Even without wealth arising from karma, do not create sorrow, But give alms according to what you have. Leaves, flowers, fruits, water, and medicines, All become infinite through the power of endless dedication. If it is emptied by stinginess and non-use, What use is this wealth to the owner of wealth? In terms of wealth itself, Why cannot it be the master of wealth? This (world) is the place of karma, From here to the other side is the place of fruition. Whatever is done here, Will surely be experienced as such in the other place. Seeing others' wealth, high caste, beauty, and health, Why do you grieve here? If you want all of this, have you not heard that merit, The seed of virtue, produces fruit? Even if there is wealth but no giving, What use is there in barely surviving? Even if there is the fruit of the Kimpaka, What use is it when hungry? If one gives alms without harming others, This person's various enjoyments cannot be carried away by water, Nor burned by fire,
