Also, like a place burning together with firewood, and without wind, it suddenly goes out as if water were poured on it. Or, in the house of a patient, many utensils repeatedly fall; or, in someone's house, utensils repeatedly fall from their hands, then that person's life is also difficult to save. If someone becomes weak, but suddenly appears to recover, that person's life is also uncertain, this is what the son of Common Knowledge said. That is to say, if a patient is very weak and without strength, but suddenly recovers for no reason, and appears as if he is not sick, that person's life is also uncertain. This is what the son of Common Knowledge said. Relatives and friends should not be listened to even if they ask; doctors should not speak; and should not agree to treat it. That is to say, if the patient's relatives and friends ask whether the patient is alive or dead, one should not listen to the death indicated by the signs of death, because it is a cause of sadness, so the doctor should not say that this person will die. For diseases where life is exhausted, one should also not agree to treat and cure them with medicine, because even if the doctor tries to treat such a patient, it will be in vain. The messengers of Yama, flesh-eaters, etc., if they are closely attended by others, medicine will destroy their power, therefore, they should be completely abandoned. That is to say, because those whose lives are exhausted are closely attended and dwell with the messengers of Yama, etc., therefore, that patient should be completely abandoned. Then, what fault does that cause? Flesh-eaters and Rakshasas, etc., destroy and eliminate the power of not being sick with medicines such as those that nourish, therefore, they use other methods to pacify diseases as they are, because the combination will not succeed, so they should be abandoned. All the results of the Veda of Life depend on the knowledge of life. Therefore, doctors should strive to know all the signs of death. That is to say, the result of the Veda of Life is the way of doing things without disease, etc., all of which reside in the minds of doctors who know life, and exist in their lineage, therefore, doctors should strive to know the signs of death.

All things should be in a state of being free from illness, and the doctor should strive to understand all the symptoms of the patient. It should be known that the fruits of the actions of life are these: to know the limits of the existence of life, and to guard and protect it at that time, so both of these need to be known. Life and merit both exhausted, even if the two are not exhausted, beings will die because they have not abandoned terrible things. Just like this, life is exhausted and about to die, the great and upright sages have spoken of four causes: the exhaustion of life, which means that the lifespan of the existence of life accumulated by one's own karma is exhausted and finally ends; similarly, the exhaustion of merit, which means that the fruits produced by previous good deeds are exhausted; both are exhausted, which means that both life and merit just mentioned are exhausted; also, even if the two are not exhausted and exist, they have not abandoned terrible weapons and poisons, etc., and have fallen into water and cliffs, etc. It is said that these four causes cause beings to die and be separated from life. Conversely, life and merit, etc., are not exhausted, and abandoning terrible things will lead to survival. The explanation of the fifth chapter of the section on the body, written by the teacher Yuexi, in the "Collected Essence of the Eight Limbs: A Commentary on the Meaning of Words, Moonlight," is completed. Next, the messengers of the section on the body will be discussed. Just like this, the connection of writing this is as follows: After explaining the characteristics of the omens of death that depend on the patient, asking about the manner of messengers or envoys, etc., from the time the doctor sets out, etc., it shows auspicious and inauspicious signs for the patient, so this is written after that. A messenger refers to an envoy, etc., who is sent by others, and by mentioning these, one can collect the ways of meeting the doctor, etc., as well as the good and bad omens when thinking in the mind, setting out, walking on the road, and entering the house, as well as the appearance of dreams. In order to help understand these, the meaning that is needed will be explained. This is the meaning to be expressed. The extraordinary and the practitioner, as well as those of the same kind, will be accomplished.
