The color of the skin becomes unsightly, and that which is repulsive is said to be leprosy. This is because of improper diet and behavior, such as eating food that is too cold or too hot, as well as foods like Yavaka. Similarly, in terms of behavior, doing evil deeds such as killing and stealing. In particular, eating incompatible foods, such as eating fish and milk together, eating honey and moist meat together, and so on, adopting incompatible ways as mentioned in the chapter on food. Similarly, especially engaging in contradictory behavior, various harms and injuries to others, speaking harsh words, thinking of harming others, that is, doing unwholesome deeds with body, speech, and mind, and slandering holy beings, etc., committing sinful deeds immediately in this life. Or, having done and accumulated them in the past, becoming accustomed to them, the collection of diseases such as wind are aroused and generated, becoming harmful, spreading directly into the veins, and after entering, harming the skin, etc., generating disease, making it weak and shrunken. Then, after that, those diseases will occur and emerge externally, causing the color of the skin to become unsightly, presenting various colors different from before, that disease is called leprosy. This is what the great sage Son of Constant Knowledge and others have said. Because it is missed from the time of treatment, it will make the whole body bad. The reason why it is called leprosy is that if one misses one's own time for treatment and does not treat it, then it will make everything bad and harmful, therefore it is said to be called leprosy.
