"From alcohol arise fear, sorrow, anger, and loss of life, including madness, intoxication, and fainting, as well as forgetfulness, all of which are consuming diseases." This means that intoxication and so on reside in alcohol, because it is the cause of these. "Consuming disease" refers to the disease that makes one like a corpse, as will be explained below, and as a synonym for the name, it can also be called the disease that causes one to fall. "Wherever there is a single loss of mindfulness, all non-virtue arises there." This means, what is the use of saying more? Wherever there is a single loss of mindfulness in alcohol, then all things that exist will arise in a non-virtuous way and will become non-dharma. "Unsuitable food, even if eaten, will cause illness or death." This means that because one eats unsuitable or inappropriate food, even if the food is the support of life, it will cause illness or death, so what need is there to say more about alcohol? "The three categories of faults of alcohol, even wise people, will destroy shame, etc." This means that any fault of alcohol
