Therefore, all things being equal, they increase; conversely, they are harmful. This is what is meant. "All things" refers to harm, the body's nourishment, and the impurities that depend on the body. When these reach a state of equality and sameness, they nourish and increase, exceeding their own limits. Conversely, being in a state of inequality leads to harm, which means decline and decrease. For the common and the specific, it is considered that there are three distinctions: substance (dravya), quality (guna), and action (karma). That is to say: In all aspects of all things, growth is the same as substance, quality, and action. Conversely, things change because of this. This is what is said. Among them, for substance, blood should be nourished with blood, flesh with flesh, fat with fat, bone with bone, marrow with marrow, and semen with semen. Similarly, the womb should be nourished with the womb that will arise later. This is what is said. Among them, blood nourishing blood means both are water. Flesh nourishing flesh means earth. Similarly, water with the nature of water can increase phlegm with the same nature. Similarly, ghee and milk can increase semen. Similarly, medicines, tonics, and Nium wood, etc., have the nature of the moon. Through satisfaction, the characteristics of various substances balance the body's nourishment, thereby making the body oily and increasing strength and the radiance of masculinity. Nutmeg, five peppers, and cajeput fruit, etc., can increase wisdom, knowledge, and heat, etc. In terms of quality, saltpeter, alkali, and bitter salt, etc., although considered to be elements of earth, can increase phlegm with the nature of water because they are the same as the parts of qualities such as oily, heavy, and cool. Karma also has three types, namely the actions of body, speech, and mind. Among them, the karma of the body, such as running, jumping, and swimming, etc., increases wind because it is the same as movement. The karma of speech includes reading, speaking, reciting, and singing, etc.

Mind is the function of the mind, namely thinking and discerning, desire and sorrow, and fear. These also become factors that disturb the mind, thus increasing wind. Similarly, since it is in accordance with generating suffering, anger and jealousy, etc., increase bile. Sleeping, laziness, and attachment to a comfortable bed, since it is in accordance with adding, increase phlegm. In particular, becoming special and unbalanced leads to decrease. For example, from a substance perspective, the fruit ga-bhe-dha makes one emaciated, because it has the nature of wind, so it reduces flesh, etc., which has the nature of earth. Similarly, salt, which has the nature of fire, reduces phlegm. From qualities, for example, sourness, because it has the nature of water, is incompatible with phlegm, so it reduces it through the qualities of lightness, roughness, warmth, sharpness, and dryness. From actions, sleep, laziness, and discomfort, etc., are all accompanied by the continuous movement of wind, and these have the characteristic of being completely immobile, so they decrease. Similarly, mental activities with the nature of complete movement, mutual movement, and effort, are incompatible with immobility, so they reduce phlegm. Therefore, it is said: everything equal increases, and the opposite is harmful. In order to explain from where wind, etc., increase and decrease, it is said: tastes are sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent, these six exist in six substances, and they are also powerful in order. This is because the six tastes, such as sweet, are the objects of the tongue sense, so they are called tastes. They also depend on substances with the nature of the five elements, and are powerful in order, the previous tastes all gain strength and are powerful. Therefore, among all tastes, sweetness is the greatest source of strength for embodied beings, and astringency is the least in generating strength. Among them, sweetness refers to sweet things such as jaggery and ghee. Sourness refers to large limes, etc.
