If it possesses the qualities of fire, it will completely pacify the wind. Because it possesses sharp and other cooling qualities, it will cause bile and other things to increase. Because of warmth, it increases, and dull taste and other things are pacified because they possess coolness. The qualities of sharpness and so on are sharpness, lightness, foul smell, purging, and thinness. Those qualities of bile that are equal in proportion, because they possess the quality of coolness, which is contrary to bile, will cause diseases of bile and so on to increase. The qualities of sharpness and so on, which are equal to the qualities of bile, are in accordance with the qualities of bile, and because they possess the quality of warmth, they increase and become agitated. These are the qualities of dull taste and so on, namely, dull taste, heaviness, roughness, stability, astringency, and the characteristic of clarity, which are contrary to the qualities of bile, and the so-called coolness is also in accordance with being the antidote to bile, and therefore it will become pacified. Oiliness and other things that are associated with coldness will cause phlegm and other things to increase. Because of warmth, it will increase, and that itself will be pacified by rough and other qualities. The qualities of oiliness are heaviness, dullness, softness, and stability. These are equal in proportion to the qualities of phlegm. The so-called "associated with coldness" means that if it becomes associated with the quality of coldness of phlegm, it will cause phlegm and other things to increase, because phlegm is the quality of oiliness and so on, which is in accordance with its qualities. It does not increase merely by itself without depending on anything, but rather it depends on other things. If it depends on the quality of coldness increasing further, then in accordance with that quality of coldness becoming more intense, oiliness and other phlegm will increase. Moreover, here it is said that the qualities of oiliness and other phlegm are summarized by coldness and coolness, because coldness congeals and freezes them, and therefore they will increase. These qualities of warmth and other things that are in accordance with the qualities of phlegm themselves, because they are in accordance with the antidote to the quality of warmth, will increase by means of melting the phlegm. The so-called "that itself" refers to that itself which is the antidote to the quality of warmth of phlegm. The so-called "by rough and other qualities" means roughness, lightness, sharpness, and hardness.

and shaking. This is because it possesses the qualities that are antagonistic to the qualities of phlegm, and therefore it will become pacified. In this regard, the nature and essence of things are as follows: If only roughness and so on are merely in accordance with the qualities of wind, then the wind will increase even more. At that time, since they do not have what becomes antagonistic to the qualities of wind, namely, the quality called warmth, roughness and so on will generate a state of wind rising and being disturbed, but they will not pacify it. Moreover, when those roughnesses are associated with the power of the quality of warmth, they become weakened, and therefore they generate a state of pacification, but they do not generate a state of rising, because they are weak in power. For bile, merely sharpness and so on, without the quality of coolness that is antagonistic to it, will generate a state of rising, but they will not generate a state of pacification, according to the previous reasoning. For phlegm, even if it is in accordance with the qualities of oiliness and so on, it will generate a state of phlegm freezing and solidifying because it possesses an excessively large portion of the quality of coldness. It only generates a state of pacification, and it does not generate a state of rising. Moreover, through oiliness and so on, which possess the quality of coldness that is antagonistic to it, this form of phlegm is melted, and it is able to generate a state of rising, but because it has the nature of melting, it is not able to generate a state of pacification. Thus, having shown how the qualities associated with wind and so on arise, now, in order to dispel the confusions about how pacification and increase occur, the treatise is being composed. After explaining its own characteristics, it is said: 'Increase and so on are in their own place. Disturbance arises from a vast cause, desiring qualities that are incompatible.' This is what is said. These faults will increase in their respective places. This statement explains and shows pacification. The statement 'Disturbance arises from a vast cause,' and the statement 'Likewise, desiring qualities that are reversed,' explain the cause. Thus, when wind and so on change
