It abides in that place, it is not only the body or only the mind. Therefore, following that, it is said thus: "Those differences of body and mind, the places are also of two kinds." As it is said, and also, naturally abiding and sudden illnesses, those are of two kinds of places by the difference of body and mind, namely: the place of epidemics, blood, bile, phlegm, etc. is the body; and the place of drunkenness, fainting, laziness, demons, spirits, madness, amnesia, desire, hatred, etc. is the mind. Also, it abides from this, therefore it is a place. Question: The cause of the arising of diseases of the body is said to be the disturbance of faults such as wind, then, what is the cause of diseases of the mind? Therefore it is said: "Desire and ignorance are also of the mind, the faults are shown as two." As it is said, mind refers to the heart, which is desire and ignorance, arising from attachment and ignorance. Here also, because it is the main one, desire is mentioned first. However, the sound of the word "also" is the meaning of also closely taking wind etc., why? Because those also rely on the mind, and make transformations. At all times, there are six kinds of madness arising from being combined and gathered with wind, bile, and phlegm, and from the cause of poison. Saying "shown" means that in the treatises of the science of life, it is briefly shown in words, but like wind etc., the nature of desire and ignorance is not complete. Here, with the nature of naturally abiding etc., wind etc. or all are spoken, but not desire and ignorance. Showing the method of knowing the body damaged by disease is: "The patient is observed and known, inquired about and thoroughly examined." As it is said, because there is disease, it is a patient, that is, one who is afflicted by disease. That should be thoroughly examined by observation etc. Among them, observation is with the eye, with yellowing of the eye etc., for the weak, observing the yellowing of the color and the appearance of white, and the increase and decrease of the shape's size, and the luster and feces and urine and vomit etc. and

Touch should be performed. Touch is to examine plague, tumors, dangers caused by indigestion, as well as cold, heat, stiffness, trembling, smoothness, roughness, etc., through the touch of the hands and body. Inquire about pain, loss of appetite, vomiting, belching, hardness of the abdomen, softness, as well as visions seen in dreams, thoughts, age, where the disease starts to manifest, astrology, friends, enemies, happiness, suffering, etc., all of which should be thoroughly examined from the patient's words. Regarding the convenient methods for understanding the types of diseases, it has been explained as follows: The basis of disease is the initial state, the characteristic is approaching manifestation, which can be obtained. This means that diseases should be thoroughly examined through five ways, such as the basis of the disease. The basis of the disease, the cause, and the effect are different terms for the same thing. These are further divided into two types: near and far. Near is further divided into near and very near. Among them, near refers to being mixed with substances such as roughness, lightness, coldness, etc. Very near refers to, for example, ailments such as wind, under whose direct influence diseases will occur, thus becoming disordered. Far refers to the initial occurrence of plagues, etc., such as the appearance of vitiligo, etc., on the outside, as well as leprosy and urinary diseases, etc. Therefore, such a meaning arises, and the cause of such diseases is close at hand. Because it happens in this way, diseases should be understood from the basis of the disease. The initial state refers to the special characteristic of later diseases being unclear. When one wants to develop diseases such as plague, it is not obvious due to the special nature of damages such as wind. What can make it manifest? Because of its extreme minuteness, what is not obvious, and the symptoms have not manifested, that is the initial state. The characteristic is also different from the initial state, referring to the ability to clearly see and understand the disease through the symptoms that are pervasive due to the differences of all ailments. Approaching manifestation refers to enjoying comfort and related foods, etc. Through such foods, etc., this disease has not occurred, and through such means, it will now occur.
