It is not the difference in the action itself, but how the great elements produce taste and power, etc., through medicine, the general cause is revealed, and similarly, its action is only generally revealed. This is the meaning to be expressed. Therefore, after explaining the general action of medicines, etc., the way in which these medicines each perform different actions is explained through special distinctions, namely: By the distinction of various factors, the classification of medicines becomes different. That is to say, in general, the actions of taste, digestion, and efficacy of medicines are also different, and are special. By what do they become different? They become different through the distinction of various factors. Various factors refer to the great elements that exist in different ways, that is, the great elements produced by the good and non-good deeds previously done by different sentient beings. These great elements are completely transformed by various and different factors, and the classification of medicines produced by these factors is special. This special distinction makes the action classification of medicines in general different and exists in various ways. Tastes, etc., also depend on this, so their actions also differ due to the classification of medicines. Thus, among the two types of medicines, some are produced by the same producing factors, and some are produced by the same efficacy producing factors, so there are various factors. In order to show an example of one aspect of these, it is said: Wheat and barley are sweet, heavy, and can pacify and produce wind. Fish is hot, milk is cool, the lion's mouth is a pig. Although wheat and barley are sweet in taste and heavy in nature, wheat can pacify wind and barley can produce wind, because they are produced by various factors. Similarly, because it is produced by various factors, although fish is sweet in taste, its efficacy is hot and not cold, and although milk is sweet, its post-digestive efficacy is cool and not hot. Similarly, because it is produced by various factors

Therefore, although lion meat is sweet, its aftertaste and so on are astringent. Pork is sweet, and its aftertaste and so on are also sweet. Thus, since everything arises from various causes and conditions, taste, aftertaste, and potency are different, as shown by examples in sequence. This is the commentary on the essence of the Eight Limbs, called "Moonlight on the Meaning of Words," composed by the teacher Zla-ba-la-dga', the commentary on the ninth chapter. After that, the chapter on distinguishing different tastes will be explained. After explaining the chapter on distinguishing the differences of medicines and so on, the chapter on distinguishing different tastes will be explained, because all tastes depend on medicines. That is, as previously stated, "The taste, etc., of the medicines themselves are supreme because they depend on them." Because without medicine, taste and so on cannot be clearly perceived. Therefore, first medicine is explained, and then the knowledge of the differences in taste that depend on it is presented, which is the beginning of this treatise. Among them, the difference of tastes is the distinction of tastes, and for the sake of understanding it, the chapter that is beneficial for this will be explained and elucidated. Taste, for the time being, is the nature of water, and is not clear at first, because it possesses six seasons, and because the qualities of the great elements are different in proportion, they are not the same, and from bitter to sweet, they are divided into six types. Thus, by mentioning water, it is known that taste is a form of water's transformation, and earth and so on function by way of acting together, therefore, the aggregate is the true creator of taste. Therefore, the manner in which taste arises from the difference in the proportion of the great elements is explained, that is: The arising of sweet and other tastes, earth, water, fire, earth, water and fire, space, wind, fire, wind, earth and wind, arise in sequence from the predominance of two and two. That is to say, the arising of the six tastes, sweet, sour, etc., arises in sequence from the predominance of two and two great elements, that is, whichever two great elements predominate, they arise from that.

So, which great elements (Sanskrit, Mahābhūta, Devanagari, महाभूत, Romanized Sanskrit, mahābhūta, literal meaning, great element) are particularly capable of producing taste? Just as their number, I will explain: Like earth-water, earth-water means that the elements of earth and water are predominant, from which sweet taste arises; fire-earth, meaning that the elements of fire and earth are predominant, from which sour taste arises. Water-fire, meaning that the elements of water and fire are predominant, from which salty taste arises. Space-wind, meaning that the elements of space and wind are predominant, from which bitter taste arises. Fire-wind, meaning that the elements of fire and wind are predominant, from which pungent taste arises. Earth-wind, meaning that the elements of earth and wind are predominant, from which astringent taste arises. Thus, it seems that taste arises from two elements. By saying "predominant," it shows that all tastes are transformed from elements. Therefore, although they arise from a combination, the proportion of the main component is complete. Wherever which element is predominant, there it produces a different taste. In this way, due to the influence of the main component, even though sweet taste can be produced by all elements, we say that it is produced by earth and water. Similarly, the remaining tastes should also be understood in this way. Now, in order to explain the characteristics and functions of the elements such as sweetness, I will say: From that, sweetness, When tasted, It sticks to the mouth, and the body also, Feels satisfied, delights the senses, Ants and others are pleased. The meaning of this passage is: Among the six tastes, to recognize the essence of sweetness, when it is tasted and comes into contact with the tongue, it sticks to the mouth, becoming viscous, similarly, it makes the body feel satisfied and comfortable, makes the senses completely delighted and happy, similarly, it also makes tiny creatures such as ants feel happy and crave it. Sourness makes saliva drip from the mouth, Teeth clench, hair stands on end, Eyes and eyebrows wrinkle. The meaning of this passage is: Sourness, when tasted, makes saliva drip from the mouth, liquid accumulates, similarly, it makes the teeth clench, hair stands on end, makes the eyes and eyebrows wrinkle and contract. Saltiness makes saliva accumulate in the mouth, Makes the cheeks and throat feel hot. The meaning of this passage is: Saltiness, when tasted by the tongue, makes saliva accumulate in the mouth,
