This is for making. Now, concerning what is called "stomach" and so forth, it speaks of the digestion of substances in verse form. From encountering the stomach fire, whatever arises as another taste, the final digestion of various tastes, that is said to be digestion. This refers to the fact that when medicine encounters and combines with the stomach fire, whatever changes into another taste, that is, becomes other tastes such as sweet, at the final stage of the action of food, at the final stage of the digestion of various tastes such as sweet, sour, and spicy, whatever is digested and matured, that is called digestion. This is what the sages said. For example, when a sweet taste is eaten, the difference of the initial taste appears, and that is what the wise ones of the treatises call digestion. Therefore, it is said: Sweet and salty, the after-taste is sweet; the after-taste of sour is sour; bitter, spicy, and astringent, the after-taste is mostly bitter. This refers to the fact that sweet is delicious, and salty is various salts. These two have a sweet after-taste. After eating a sour taste, the result is also sour. Bitter, spicy, and astringent tastes are mostly digested into a bitter taste. The reason for saying "mostly" is that in some cases, it is inconsistent with what is said here. For example, the sweet taste contained in grains will turn into a sour taste after digestion. Therefore, although the taste of grains is sweet, the after-taste is sour, which produces bile and is heavy. Similarly, haritaki, ginger, pomegranate, and long pepper, etc., should also be applied in the same way. It is also said in the Compendium: Grains themselves are sweet and sour, similarly, sour apples are also sweet, sesame oil becomes bitter, and long pepper also becomes astringent. That is what is said. In this way, although grains themselves are sweet, the after-taste will become sour; although sour apples are sour, they will be digested into sweet; although sesame oil itself is sour, it will be digested into bitter; although long pepper is spicy, the after-taste will become astringent. Therefore, because there are such inconsistencies, it is said "mostly." Taste and after-taste have the same result. This refers to the fact that taste refers to the sweet, sour, etc., that are perceived by the tongue, and the after-taste is the fruit, so they are the same and consistent. This is because when tasting a sweet taste, the body feels satisfied.

Whatever is done, such as making flowers, is like the sweetness dissolving, and it is the same. Whatever other actions produce deliciousness, etc., are the fruits of that sweetness, so they are consistent in all respects. The function of sweetness is to promote digestion and nourish the body, etc. Regarding this, medicines are good and bad. Some medicines work through taste, while others promote digestion. Some medicines work through other qualities, potency, and power. Regarding "Regarding this," it refers to what needs to be clearly grasped, among medicines, taste, potency, and power. The good and bad of medicines refers to the action of existence and non-existence. For medicines, taste acts, and astringency, etc., pacifies phlegm, and cooling energy generates wind. The water of moist meat has hot energy, so it generates bile. Similarly, sesame oil, after digestion, has an astringent taste and generates feces and urine. Wild sour substances are rough and warm, and the stem of wood apple is rough, generating bile. Amla has cooling energy, and after digestion, the taste is sweet, generating phlegm. Ang-shing, although rough, does not generate wind. Salt, which tastes salty when licked, has a sweet taste after digestion, eliminating bile and also benefiting phlegm. Pushal-tse and Acorus calamus are oily, warm, and have a sweet taste after digestion, eliminating wind. Long pepper is also similar to this, eliminating wind. Garlic and Ligusticum striatum are oily, hot, and heavy, so they eliminate wind. These things are oily and heavy, generating phlegm. Radish and eggs also have a sweet taste after digestion, generating phlegm. Brihati, Kantakari, and Bisha are hot in energy, generating bile. Meat is warm in energy, eliminating wind and generating bile. Kulattha has an astringent taste, but after digestion, it is cooling, eliminating wind and generating bile. Thus, these are just examples of one aspect. Whatever the taste of medicine, etc., dwells with its powerful strength. That which is extremely overpowering, the cause of accomplishment dwells in itself. Regarding "Whatever the taste of medicine, etc., dwells with its powerful strength," it refers to whatever taste, energy, digestion, and power belong to the category of medicine.
