Thus it is said. Therefore, the teacher, the righteous sage Caraka, considers that the eight, such as heaviness, themselves possess the distinction of power and are the essence of all qualities. Therefore, they are called "power" and named "ability," which is in accordance with and consistent with the scriptures and meaning, and thus they are named. Among them, possessing the distinction of power refers to the superiority of qualities, that is, the excellent power. The essence of all qualities is the most supreme of all qualities. Terms refer to worldly and scriptural analyses. Among them, these are the main terms. That is, worldly people hear and see them saying, "This is heavy," "This is light," "The quality of this is like this." Just like that, in the scriptures it is also said, "Even if there are many precious things, it is mainly by the main terms." and so on. Furthermore, it means that precious things are mentioned many times. Heaviness and so on are mentioned many times as precious, but tastes and so on are not like that. Similarly, they are also mentioned as the main ones, because compared to the qualities of tastes and so on, they are considered the best, which will be explained below. When examining the nature of diseases such as phlegm, it is shown that their respective qualities possess heaviness and so on. And it is said, "Phlegm is heavy, cold, and oily," but it is not said to be sweet. It is also said, "Bile is accompanied by oiliness, cold and hot," but it is not said to be light. Therefore, in order to reverse the understanding, even if tastes and so on exist, they are not explained, therefore it is heaviness and so on. Thus it is said. Therefore, because of this reason that is shown in this way, from becoming the essence of all qualities and so on, whatever is understood as the reversed tastes and so on, that is, other qualities such as taste and digestion, even if the name "power" exists, because it is not the main one, therefore it is not said to be "power." Therefore, heaviness and so on themselves are power, while tastes and so on are not. Others also show that heat and cold, these two, are power. Thus it is said. Other teachers show that the heat and cold of medicine, these two, are called two powers. Saying "itself."

must be grasped. That is, whatever a substance does, that is called its power. But the eight qualities such as heaviness are not powers. Among these, the two powers with the characteristics of heat and cold include everything that is not included in the five powers mentioned earlier. Here is the reason for that: Medicines have various properties, and they have the power of the sun and moon. This world will never go beyond light and darkness. This means that when this world operates, medicines, although of the same essence, appear to have various properties. Moreover, the sun and moon themselves have great power, so they do not go beyond their own nature. Because they have this nature. If someone asks, although these substances are diverse, do they not go beyond the nature of the sun and moon? To illustrate this example, the following passage is said: Just as these beings never go beyond the law of appearing light and dark. Similarly, things of diverse nature that exist in a flowing and non-flowing state do not go beyond the nature of the moon and sun. Therefore, some medicines have the nature of the sun, and some medicines have the nature of the moon. Therefore, some have the power of heat, and some have the power of cold. Among them, heat can cause dizziness, thirst, fainting, sweating, fever, and rapid digestion, and pacify wind and phlegm. This means that among the two powers of heat and cold, medicines with heat power can cause symptoms such as dizziness. Rapid digestion means that food can be digested quickly. Pacifying wind and phlegm means eliminating wind and phlegm diseases. Cooling medicines can satisfy, nourish the body, stiffen the body, and make blood and bile clear. This means that cooling and cold medicines can make people feel satisfied, etc., and make blood and bile very clear. Among them, satisfaction means creating happiness. Nourishing means increasing luster. Stiffening means making the body and face stiff. Making blood and bile very clear means making them clear and transparent, without impurities.
