Even the various different tastes that arise in dependence on (medicines) are produced from the aggregation of various elements, and do not depend on medicines like other qualities. Therefore, the aggregation of various great elements itself produces taste, and does not depend on a single substance like the color of great elements, etc. Therefore, taste arises from the aggregation of various great elements, and not from a single element. The causes of the various tastes that depend on medicines are the aggregation of various great elements. In some cases, two elements are dominant, which makes the taste of sweet medicines, etc., obvious. That is to say, in the chapter on "Distinguishing Various Tastes," it says, "The arising of sweet tastes, etc., comes from earth, water, fire, earth, water, and fire." And so on, these are the elements. Therefore, all tastes arise from the aggregation of various elements, and based on which elements are more numerous and dominant, it can be determined that this is a sweet medicine, this is a sour medicine, etc. However, it is not the case that there are no sour, etc., components in sweet medicines. Due to the action of tasting and power, various tastes appear mutually among substances. Water is a substance with indistinct taste, and although it possesses all six tastes, it is not obvious or apparent. Therefore, just as the aggregation of various elements is the cause of the arising of medicines, it is also the cause of various tastes such as sweetness. Therefore, all tastes arise from the aggregation of various elements, and many obvious tastes have been described. Therefore, "Therefore, diseases are also not a single fault." This means that because the taste of medicines is diverse, diseases are also not singular. Here, diseases refer to the collection of various diseases, and faults refer to wind, etc. That is to say, taste depends on medicines, and taste also depends on medicines. Since medicines possess the nature of various great elements, encountering various tastes will produce wind, etc., and producing these winds, etc., will lead to diseases. Therefore, diseases are not caused by a single fault, but by all three faults. Here, it should also be implicitly added that "there are many kinds," such as "This is the plague of wind, this is the plague of bile," and so on. So, what is taste here? What is the after-effect of taste?

Now, therefore it is said: In that, what is clear is called taste. What is unclear, the aftertaste, in the end, is also considered to be somewhat clear. Like this, medicine made of the five great elements, which becomes the place of all tastes, whatever taste such as sweetness is clear and certain, in the way that it can be known, that is said to be called taste. For example, this is sweetness itself, this is sourness itself. The trace of taste refers to what is not clear, for example, when eating amla and so on, what the tongue does not clearly perceive, that is called aftertaste. That is ultimately, slightly, that is, a small amount that appears together with the taste, is also considered to be. Question: It should not be said that tastes such as sweetness have qualities such as heaviness, because tastes such as sweetness are qualities themselves, and heaviness and so on are also qualities in the same way. Therefore, the place of qualities such as heaviness should not be said to be qualities such as sweetness, because the particular sovereign said that qualities have no qualities. Therefore it is said: The qualities of medicine are heaviness and so on, taste depends on earth and so on, similarly applied and approximated, named from taste. Like this, in the place of taste and so on, truly speaking, the qualities of medicine such as heaviness are also inferred from the fruit. Therefore, the quality of medicine is heaviness, and the taste that shows heaviness is also the quality of heaviness, which is similar and commonly used. Used together, so it is called similar use. Approximate application is similar use, the same as other dharmas. In this way, through the approximate application of similar use, in a similar way, the qualities of heaviness and so on, qualities are applied on taste and so on, but in reality taste and so on do not have qualities. Therefore, the name is added from the place where taste becomes the main thing. Among them, earth medicine is heavy and coarse, hard and the part of smell is very large, heavy and stable and aggregated, and can make it grow. Like this, among those, the medicine of earth nature has the qualities of heaviness and so on.
