It should be practiced. Food and drink have merits, and even if they are in moderation, eating or drinking at the wrong time will harm the body. Therefore, regarding the excretion of urine and feces, the verses explain the timing: Excreting urine and feces, the heart is without defilement, there are no faults that go astray, belching is clean, eructation turns hot, and the downward wind flows naturally. Likewise, the warmth of the fire increases, the senses are clear, and the body is also extremely light. Eating food in moderation, properly prepared, is considered timely. As it is said, urine and feces are well excreted, the heart is without defilement, that is, the mind is clear and without fear, faults such as wind do not go astray, they remain in their own place. Belching is clean, without odor, eructation turns hot, and one desires to eat due to hunger. The downward wind flows naturally, that is, the downward wind flows as usual. Likewise, the warmth of the stomach fire increases, the senses are clear, and one is clear about one's own activities. Likewise, one's own body also becomes extremely light, and there is no hindrance to activities. Eating food in moderation, properly prepared, as previously said, is the time to eat, as the teachers believe. This is called "Essence of the Eight Limbs Commentary: Moonbeams of Meaning," written by the teacher Moon Joy, the commentary on the eighth chapter. After that, the chapter on knowing the differences between medicines and so on will be explained. As it is said, after that, it follows what was said before, after eating food in moderation, the chapter on knowing the differences between medicines and so on will be explained. The medicines and so on mentioned here, the word "so on" includes efficacy and digestion and so on. The differences should be known, that is, the nature should be understood, and for the benefit of knowing this, this chapter will be explained. Why should these foods and drinks be completely examined in terms of food, taste, efficacy, and digestion before being prepared, otherwise?

It is not. In this regard, the essence of medicine is superior to taste, etc., so it is explained first, that is: the respective tastes of medicines, etc., that is superior because it depends on it. It means that the two kinds of medicines are superior in taste and function, etc. Why? Because taste, etc., depend on the medicine to exist, not just taste, etc., exist alone, so it is superior. That is also the nature of the five elements. It means that medicine exists in the form of fruit nature, flowing and non-flowing, etc., that is the nature of the five elements, and it should be understood from the five great elements. It is not substances such as space, the nature of the five great elements of substances such as space, each exists in the place where it obtains its own meaning, so this is the element called space. It cannot be said that this is the element of earth, because the elements such as earth are the nature of the five great elements. Therefore, it is expressed by its sound. Therefore, it is not one with the nature of the five elements. That is to approach and observe through five ways, that is, what has more odor components belongs to earth, and what has more taste components belongs to water. What has more shape characteristics is the characteristic of fire, what has more tactile characteristics is wind, and what has more sound characteristics is space, because what and it are always related. Although the word "what" is not said, know that this itself is an explanation. If the medicine is produced by the great elements, then by which great element and in what way is it produced? Therefore it is said: it is born depending on the earth. It means that it is born with the earth as the place of dependence. Like that, because the great element acts as the support, it is said that it produces and creates it. Similarly, that is the place of birth of fire, the place of birth of water, and as the cause of production, so the medicine's

The place of origin is water. Thus, the great element called water, by possessing taste, serves the need of the place of origin, and therefore it causes it to grow. Water is the place of origin, fire and wind, and space are all assemblies. It is born from that, and differences arise. It is said that the medicine is born and arises, and fully manifests from the assembly of fire, wind, and space. The assembly produces in the manner of cause and effect. Therefore, for example, fire serves the need by ripening itself, wind by moving and agitating, and space by opening up space. It arises, not only from the assembly of fire, wind, and space, but also whatever is special, other, different in manner, and has not yet become its own nature, also arises from the assembly of fire, wind, and space. If all medicines are produced by all five great elements, then why doubt the names, saying, "This is of earth, this is of water"? Therefore, it is said: "Names are derived from the majority." This means that for any substance, these are all causes, but whichever has a greater and larger proportion, it is named after that. What arises from a greater proportion of earth is named "earth," and what arises from a greater proportion of water is named "water." Thus, all medicines are of the nature of the five great elements. Therefore, from the gathering of elements, the elements make the medicine not of one taste. This means that because medicines arise and grow from the assembly of great elements, medicines do not become just one taste, but have many different tastes. This is the meaning. Here, if the cause of taste is the single great element, which is water. The other great elements are not, because they have no taste. The result is similar in nature to the cause, therefore, it is not reasonable for taste to arise from others, and one should not argue or examine. Because, this shows that it arises from the gathering of elements. Just as medicine arises from the gathering of great elements, so does medicine.
