Distinguishing them can be considered within the category of "doctor." A doctor is someone skilled in preventing diseases from occurring, and one who is adept at curing diseases is called a "disease expeller." In short, being skilled in the distinction between being sick and not being sick, and understanding that a patient has no signs of death and still has life, and then treating or protecting the patient, that is the fruit of the life Veda. Death is defined as being separated from life. And death, the wise sages of the past understood in four ways: dying from the exhaustion of lifespan, dying from the exhaustion of merit, dying from the exhaustion of both, and dying prematurely. They understood and explained death through these four ways. The chapter on the signs of death arising from the body's condition, body color, and behavior is the fifth chapter. Next, the sixth chapter, which examines the signs of death from auspicious omens such as messengers, will be explained. When a patient's messenger comes to visit the doctor, if very strange things occur, or if people from the four castes, such as Brahmins, bring information that matches the patient's own caste, that is a sign of success. If strange things and so on do not match the above castes, or if other messengers come, that is a sign that the treatment will not succeed. If a messenger comes who matches one's own caste, but the signs described below appear, it should be understood that the treatment will not be fruitful. When being invited to see a patient, if the messenger speaks very humbly, the messenger is fearful, speaks very hastily, is panicky, speaks rudely, speaks inauspiciously, the messenger is holding a weapon in his hand, holding a stick, is a liar, has been shaved, has sidelocks, has an inauspicious name, has bad behavior, has dirty clothes, a woman comes as a messenger, many people come as messengers, the messenger is sick, the body is ugly, the body is decorated with red flower garlands, or the body is smeared with red ochre and so on, the body is smeared with oil, the body is smeared with mud, wearing old clothes, wearing faded clothes, wearing clothes soaked in water.

Wearing the same clothes, the messenger comes riding a donkey, mule, and water buffalo. If the messenger is a stonemason, carpenter, or brings news of any superior's fault from afar to call a doctor, the doctor should not go to the patient. When the doctor himself has inauspicious thoughts or speaks inauspicious words, the messenger arrives; when the doctor is sitting naked, sitting cutting grass, sitting chiseling stones, performing fire pujas and sacrifices for his parents, lying on the ground, combing his hair, twisting wicks, when the doctor is in mourning and wailing, when the doctor is fasting. In short, when the messenger comes while the doctor is in any of the above behaviors, it should be understood that the patient will surely die. When the patient's disease, time, messenger, doctor, and direction all coincide, one should observe the omens: if the patient has a basis of phlegm disease, and the doctor and messenger meet in the morning by the water; if the patient has a basis of bile disease, and the doctor and messenger meet in the sun or a hot place; if the patient has a basis of wind disease, and the doctor and messenger meet in a cliff or abyss-like place in the afternoon, then that person is beyond cure. Furthermore, when the messenger comes to the doctor, if the following appear, they should also be regarded as signs of death: touching the navel with the hand, and similarly touching the nose, mouth, hair, body hair, nails, teeth, penis, back, breasts, throat, stomach, little finger, touching, smelling, and feeling these things. Also, holding cotton in the hand, and similarly holding balloons, black lead, bones, grass, pestle, stones, broom, fine powder, pieces of cloth, ashes, coal, cotton cloth ends, mirrors, ropes, wooden pestles, scales, lassos, coming with these things in hand. Furthermore, it is also acceptable to hold broken or damaged vessels, etc. If these signs appear before the doctor's eyes, the patient will certainly...
