If too much necrotic tissue is removed, allow it to recover slightly, add pungent medicine and perform moxibustion, and also give food and drink, and rinse the mouth to drain the diseased blood. After performing moxibustion, the diseased blood is drained, and the wounds and boils mature, and when the time is right, cut open the wound, search for and examine where the weapon or piercing object is. The signs of an immature boil are that the swelling reduces in size, the heat decreases, and the color of the immature boil does not turn red, but remains hard and stable. The signs of a mature boil are that the color changes and appears black, like a full vesicle, causing pain, stinging, spreading, and radiating. It feels as if the limbs of the body are being struck, causing numbness and pain. There is a loss of appetite, fever, infection, and drowsiness. The hot characteristic of the swelling boil is that it melts if ghee is applied, and like a wound, it is unbearable to touch. After the wound has ulcerated, it collapses slightly, and after the boil has matured, the pain lessens and it becomes old. The boil is white and wrinkled. The end of the boil is that it shrinks and the center of the top is raised. Itching and swelling become smooth. If a boil matures and then ulcerates, when touched with the hand, it feels like water inside a vesicle that can flow back and forth. This is when the wind element is excessive. If the bile element is excessive, it will be hot. If the phlegm element is excessive, it will swell. If the blood element is excessive, it will turn red. If there is no wind, bile, and phlegm, etc., this will not occur. An increase in wind, phlegm, bile, and blood will cause the boil to mature. After the wound has matured, it will be covered with pus until it ruptures, the skin will become thin, and it will be eroded by disease until it ruptures, filled with wrinkles, and the color will turn black, and the flesh of the body will also rot. Maturation and ulceration with an excess of phlegm will sink deep into the body and be filled with pus and blood. This condition is a sign of an ulcerated and mature boil.
