Boil indigenous medicinal herbs together with sour substances, and administer the remaining oil with hanuvāsama. For those who are weak and cannot tolerate bathing, mix medicines to pacify ascites with gentle oils, milk, ghee, and meat broth, etc. For patients with ascites caused by bile, if they are physically strong, oily treatments should be administered with sweet medicines, i.e., boil śāmadurbhid, three fruits, and ghee together and then bathe. Then, add khara, honey, and plenty of ghee to the decoction of the nyagrodha group of medicines, and a strong enema will be beneficial. Similarly, a gentle oil decocted from the nyagrodha group of medicines should be used for enemas. For weak ascites patients, first administer anuvāsana. Then, purify with milk gentle oil. For those with increased digestive fire, oily treatments should be administered, and enemas should be given repeatedly. Repeatedly and continuously administer gentle oils, enemas, and milk in the above order, making sure to work diligently, so that you will surely overcome ascites caused by bile. For ascites caused by phlegm, oily treatments should be done by drinking mustard seed medicines boiled with ghee, etc., and then steamed, and if physically strong, bathe with śrīkhaṇḍa mixed with ghee. Treatment with sesame oil and boiled gentle ointment is similar to this. Food should be given with three pungent items and milk, or rich in soybean juice. For ascites caused by phlegm, characterized by bulging and firmness, stagnation, loss of appetite, heartburn, low body temperature, and alcohol poisoning, Arishta wine should be given, as well as mixing scorched barley ash with water, filtering it with cloth, and drinking it. Vitex negundo, long pepper, three fruits, gentian, two types of yellow flowers, Terminalia chebula, white radish, pumice stone, orpiment, Saposhnikovia divaricata, Acorus calamus, white Aconitum, cardamom, rue, and Terminalia named Sarala, along with five types of salt, grind these into fine powder, mix with yogurt and four oils, put in a sealed earthenware pot, burn without smoke, take out the ashes, and then mix two parts of yogurt with clarified wine, or with yogurt water, warm water, Arishta wine, Asava wine, and barley wine, drinking any of these mixtures can relieve ascites, tumors, club-like diseases, toxicity, swelling, spleen and liver pain, heartburn, hemorrhoids, and constipation. For mild ascites caused by phlegm, Harista wine, cow urine drink, medicinal powder, iron-made drink, and sesame oil ash medicine drink can be given, mixing with any of these will be victorious. Mustard seeds, alkali, radish seeds, grind these into powder, make a paste with cow urine, apply to the ascites, and then steam from the outside. These steps should be applied repeatedly. For ascites caused by a combination, the body is weak, the body temperature is low, all diseases are aggravated by heat, and one disease harms another, it is incurable and should be avoided. If this is not done, death is certain, but if it is done, survival is possible, so these treatments should be done. Giving an oil drink of Danti and Travanti fruits is excellent. For mixed ascites, even if the three diseases are treated properly and cannot be cured, relatives should be consulted.
