It will become dull, speech and sound will be rough and obstructed, and it will destroy vitality. If the pervasive wind is disturbed together with phlegm, then the joints of the bones will be unable to stretch and bend, all limbs will be heavy, and walking will be unstable and staggering. If the wind that dwells with fire is disturbed together with phlegm, then the whole body will be cold and without luster, and the heat of the fire will be small. If the downward-eliminating wind is mixed with phlegm, then feces and urine will not be discharged and will be obstructed. Thus, the classification of wind diseases in relation to others should be known as twenty-two. Among them, any of the five, such as the wind called life, is called having the remaining four wind diseases. Likewise, each one also has four forms, thus becoming twenty. Among them, if the wind called life is disturbed together with the wind that turns into phlegm, then its symptoms are difficulty in breathing, being attacked by a cold, difficulty in turning the head, pain in the chest and lungs, and dryness inside the mouth. If the upward-moving wind is disturbed together with the wind called life, then it will consume color and vitality. Just as this is combined, so too should the remaining wind diseases be combined. The location of these five winds, one should look at which of the three bases of disease is located where, and what kind of chapter the target of the disease will become. The function and size of these wind diseases also depend on this. Physicians should understand well what is mixed on top of any of the five winds, such as the one called life, mixed with other diseases, or having minor wind diseases. For the two, bile and phlegm, the ten forms of combining with each of the five winds, and the twelve that combine with the two, phlegm and bile, feces and urine, should also be examined. The twelve that are the opposite of this should also be understood as they are. Each of the five wind diseases of the two, phlegm and bile, should also be understood as mixed. Thus, after the five winds and the diseases of bile and phlegm are mixed with each other, they will become very many, and if each of them is classified, then the number will be incalculable and will become countless.

Mixed diseases are very difficult to understand, so other skilled doctors should repeatedly examine and understand the ways in which their respective diseases arise and develop, and what causes them through diet and behavior, etc. Among the five winds, the one called "life" is the life of beings, and the wind that moves upward is said to be vitality. If these two winds weaken and are harmed, then life and strength will also be exhausted. These five winds are mixed together, or they may be mixed with other various diseases such as bile. In either case, if the characteristics of the disease are understood, even if it is less than a year old, it is very difficult to cure. If the characteristics of the disease are not understood, after more than a year has passed, there is nothing that is difficult to cure. If these mixed diseases are not treated and are neglected, they will lead to complications such as abdominal tumors, spleen diseases, heart disease, tumors, and decreased body temperature. The sixteenth chapter, which describes the basis of sepsis diseases, is complete. By the son of the pharmacist king, Lion's Concealment, the great doctor Pakhol, the sixteenth chapter on the basis of disease in the Essence of the Eight Branches is complete, and it is the third part of the Essence of the Eight Branches. In the Essence of the Eight Branches of Medicine, the section called "Twenty-Two Treatments," the first chapter on treating epidemics will be explained. As the great sage Son of Constant Knowledge and others have said, epidemics enter the place of undigested food and remain together with wind and so on, lowering body temperature, blocking internal channels, and thus creating epidemics. First, for immature epidemics, fasting should be done, and efforts should be made to protect vitality. If one has vitality, there is no disease, so these treatment rituals should be performed first. First, fasting eliminates all faults, increases body temperature, makes the body light and disease-free, produces hunger and thirst, food becomes delicious, food is easily digested, and vitality and radiance increase. Among them, the phlegm nature is severe, moving out of its own place.
