That is the standard of good medicine. Among them, the small amount purged with purgative medicine is purging ten times. The medium amount is thirteen times. The large amount is seventeen times. The amount less than that is the amount of six handfuls. The medium is the amount of six handfuls of dou. The large amount of purging is four times six handfuls. Among them, vomiting with emetic medicine, the amount of the ritual is about half of the purging. It is okay if bile appears at the end, which is the appropriate amount. Among them, purging with purgative medicine, it is appropriate if phlegm appears at the end of purging. When taking purgative medicine, the initial two or three times of downward discharge are intestinal dirt, and the discharge is not counted in the number of purges. Taking emetic medicine is purging and vomiting after drinking emetic medicine, and finally measuring by the amount of bile appearing. After vomiting with emetic medicine, applying oil and fumigation are also done for three or five or seven days, and then purgative medicine is taken. Moreover, it is also after the phlegm period has passed the next day, and the purgative medicine is taken after grasping the digestive ability. Among them, people's constitution has a large amount of bile and weak digestion, and even drinking milk will cause diarrhea. If a person's constitution has a large amount of wind, the digestion is strong, and it is difficult to purge even with purgative medicines such as wolfsbane and croton. Among them, people with a large amount of bile use astringent and sweet purgative medicines. People with a large amount of phlegm use spicy medicine. People with a large amount of wind use greasy, hot, and salty medicines. If the medicine is taken but still cannot be purged, feed warm boiled water. Warm the palm of the hand over the fire, or fumigate the clothes after warming them over the fire. If there is not much purging on the day of taking the purgative medicine, give some tsampa and take the purgative medicine the next day. If the patient does not want to eat, cannot eat, or has strong digestion, then the ritual of applying oil is said to be done for three or five or seven days, then increase the number of days and apply oil for ten days. After that, perform the fumigation ritual on the body, and then take the purgative medicine. When taking purgative medicine, if it has been purged once before, if it does not come down, pay special attention to what caused it. Observe carefully what caused it. Recall what caused it before.

How to properly administer a purgative? If adverse reactions occur after taking a purgative, such as heart pain, abdominal pain, indigestion, foul-smelling belching, loss of appetite, aggravation of both cold and heat conditions, sores, fever, rashes on the body, colds, difficulty in breathing downwards, and dry stools, it indicates improper use of the purgative. Conversely, the signs of proper purgative use are the opposite of the aforementioned adverse reactions. Firstly, the waste matter in the abdomen will gradually be expelled. Following that, bile, then cold conditions, and finally gas will be expelled. Such purgation is considered effective. If the purgative is too strong, leading to the depletion of cold conditions, the depletion of bile, the excretion of clear water, black water, or bloody liquid or pus resembling meat-washing water, the excretion of oily, elongated substances or bone-like substances, anal prolapse with hunger, thirst, dizziness, and sunken eyes, it indicates that the purgative is too strong. Dietary management for an overly strong purgative should be similar to dietary management after taking an emetic. Unlike the management of emetics, there is no need for fumigation therapy. The order of food intake after taking a purgative is also similar to the management of emetics, with gradual food intake and slow consumption of solid foods from the outside. If, due to weakness, the purgative cannot be digested, the disease cannot be expelled, but it is not constipation, only a slight aggravation of the condition, and the medicine cannot be digested, the measures to be taken are: on the day of taking the purgative, from evening until the medicine starts to take effect, do not eat any solid food. Alternatively, perform oil baths and fumigation therapy first, and then take the purgative, so that it will not harm minor illnesses. Performing purgative cleansing, bloodletting therapy, combining with oil bath therapy, and fasting after taking a purgative will all lead to a decrease in body temperature and physical weakness. Therefore, the measures to be taken at this time are to feed easily digestible foods such as plain rice porridge or thin rice porridge, and to manage it slowly.
