Even if one does not possess (the status of a monastic), one should perform activities that do not contradict these three things. In short, all Dharma practices and actions should be carried out and practiced appropriately. One should trim long hair, nails, and facial hair, keep the nine orifices clean, keep the feet clean, enjoy bathing, wear excellent fragrant incense, keep clothing neat and not too flashy. For clothing and decorations, etc., one should not be too simple. One should always wear jewels, blessed mantras, and important medicines on the body. When going back and forth, one should wear shoes, carry an umbrella, and look with eyes at a moderate level. Do not go anywhere at night. If there is an important matter that must be done at night, consult with companions, carry weapons, and go. On the road to and fro, is there the shadow of a stupa, or a lama, a place of offering? Is there the shadow of a victory banner? Or a corpse, ashes, a dung heap, rubble, a mound, discarded tormas and arrows, washed land, spilled water, one should not trample or step over these, but go around them. Do not cross a large river. Do not go into a large fire. Do not ride in dilapidated and dangerous boats, do not climb dangerous trees. Do not ride unruly horses. When yawning, laughing, opening the mouth, etc., do not open the mouth too wide. Do not pick the nose too much with your fingers. Do not draw on the ground aimlessly. Do not twist the body and limbs excessively. Do not squat. Whether doing something with the body, speaking with the tongue, or thinking with the mind, whatever you do, do not overwork yourself, be moderate, and let go early. Do not lie down in one place for a long time. Do not spend the night under a tree whose origin is unknown. Similarly, do not go to the crossroads of roads, next to stupas, at the intersection of roads, next to temples, at the bloody places where livestock are slaughtered, at places where garbage is piled up, or at nomadic places. Do not go to empty houses and cemeteries, even during the day. Do not look directly at the sun. Do not carry things on your head. Very...

Do not constantly look at anything, whether it is subtle, shining, dirty, or ugly. Alcohol is the source of indulgence and confusion, so do not sell it yourself, do not sell it to others, and do not let others drink it, nor should you drink it yourself. Do not sit in a frosty place in the morning, do not sit in the sun, do not sit in a graveyard, do not sit on an anthill, do not sit in a place where strong winds are blowing, do not sit in such places and directions. When numbness occurs, do not twist your neck, nor stretch your neck in the same way, do not fall asleep with your neck twisted, do not sleep with your body twisted, all of these will turn into illnesses, so do not twist your neck and body. Do not sit on the edge of a cliff by the river, do not associate with those who are not in harmony with the king, or those who are punished by the king, be careful not to get close to snakes and wild animals, and places where horned livestock are beaten. When a patient develops red swelling, and at midday and sunset when it turns completely red, during these three times, do not eat, do not sleep with women, do not read or write, and do not have such thoughts in your heart. Do not eat at the homes of unfriendly people and enemies, do not drink alcohol while eating where many people are eating, do not eat where many people are arguing, and do not eat spoiled food. Do not inappropriately pat your body with your hands, do not lick your lips and blow air, do not shake your head and hands violently, and do not scratch your nails against each other. Do not go into water and fire. Do not pass in front of or between where lamas and monks are sitting. Sitting in the smoke of burning corpses will cause illness, so do not sit there. Let go of women who are free and thoughts of women. In short, the teacher of the actions of the unwise is the world itself. Therefore, to think about and understand worldly matters, one must be in harmony with worldly people. My mind is moistened by compassion, extending my hand, giving, subduing body, speech, and mind, thinking of others, considering it as my own affair, such a person is unwise.
