In this regard, consuming light and rough food, as well as light and rough medicine, can trigger wind disorders. In this regard, if the body is internally rough and hot, even if one consumes rough and warm food, wind disorders will not be triggered because the early and middle months of summer are warm and hot seasons. During the late summer month and the early autumn month, when rainfall increases, the residue after digesting sour food will also become sour. Even consuming sour medicine is acceptable, as it can trigger bile disorders. However, since the cold and cool season of summer has arrived, bile disorders will not be triggered. In early and late winter, consuming oily and cold food, as well as drinking cold water and medicine, will thoroughly trigger phlegm disorders in winter. At this time, it is acceptable to consume oily and cold food, even though it is cold in winter. Therefore, since the body has entered a season of coldness and inward contraction, it will only trigger phlegm disorders, and will not cause illness due to phlegm disorders. Thus, from the nature of the six seasons, the triggering and onset of the three disorders—wind, phlegm, and bile—are shown in a sequential manner. The accumulation of wind and other disorders, even if the season for the onset of the disease has arrived, if one consumes harmful and unsuitable food, one will be immediately afflicted by the disease. If wind and other disorders are in an intermediate state, even if the season for the onset of the disease has arrived, if one consumes food that does not trigger the disease, it will not be triggered. As mentioned earlier, the accumulation of wind and other disorders in an intermediate state, which then leads to the onset of the disease and being afflicted by it, refers to the disease immediately spreading throughout the head and limbs of the body. Such a disease gradually heals, just as a house gradually dries up as floodwaters recede. Therefore, the forms of diseases are diverse and countless. For this state of internal disorder and dryness in the body, one should understand what kind of disease form it is, as well as the causes of the disease, the medicine, and combine them with treatment methods. Moreover, it is impossible to list each and every form of disease, because the root of all diseases is ultimately attributed to wind, bile, and phlegm. For example, just as a bird flies in the sky during the day and cannot separate from its own shadow. All sentient beings possess the three forms of disease: attachment, defilement, and darkness.

Various diseases caused by karma inevitably lead to an imbalance in the seven vital essences of oneself, which also becomes the cause of the disease, and is influenced by the three: rajas (passion), tamas (darkness), and ignorance. The imbalance of the three elements of wind, bile, and phlegm causes the seven vital essences to become unbalanced and disordered, thus causing disease. The causes of these diseases are generally threefold: environment, time, and bad karma. Each of these three factors can be divided into three types: slight dependence, excessive dependence, and wrong dependence. Each of these three factors can also be divided into three degrees: small, medium, and large, for a total of nine types. How is this so? The object of the eye is visual appearance. Whatever one looks at is fine, but not looking at one's own object, or not looking carefully, but just looking slightly or vaguely, is like slightly looking at the appearance with the eyes. If one stares at an appearance with the eyes for a long time, that is called excessive dependence, and that will also cause disease, which is not good. Also, looking at something very small, or staring at the dazzling glare like the sun, or looking at a frightening sight, or placing the sight very close to the eyes, or staring at something very far away, or looking at a pleasing sight, or looking at an unpleasant sight with the eyes, these are called wrong ways of looking, and that will also cause disease, which is not good. Similarly, for the objects of the ears, such as sounds, etc., one should also consider them in three ways. The object of the ear is listening to very loud and strong sounds, or smelling rotten, foul odors, etc., which is also not good. Each sense organ should be matched with the nature of the object, and relying on and combining in three ways: small, large, and wrong, thus leading to harmful diseases, in the same way as described above. A year can be divided into three seasons: four months of winter, four months of spring, and four months of summer. These three seasons should also be divided into slight, excessive, and wrong according to the situation, thus causing harm to people, animals, external grains and fruits, plants, etc.
