As one acts, so one enjoys the fruits. One becomes free from illness, long-lived, and endowed with splendor and fame. The seventh chapter is complete. Now, the chapter on showing the proper amount of food to be eaten will be explained. Always restrain the amount of food, and eating food in moderation is the fire-heat that digests food. When eating food in moderation, one should also distinguish between foods that are difficult to digest and heavy, and those that are easy to digest and light. When eating foods that are difficult to digest and heavy, eat only until half full. When eating foods that are easy to digest and light, do not eat until completely full. Therefore, eating food in moderation means that the food will be easily digested, and that is called moderation. Furthermore, if the amount of food eaten is insufficient, one's strength will not be good, one will lack splendor and radiance, and all wind diseases will also arise. Furthermore, if one does not restrain the amount of food and eats too much, all diseases will quickly arise. Thus, if food is not digested and one feels unwell, diseases such as wind and phlegm will be immediately provoked by the undigested food, and thus food accumulation occurs. These undigested foods fill the stomach, and they are neither vomited upwards nor excreted downwards, but remain in the stomach to be digested, and directly invade strong diseases, gathering together, which is called "food bloating disease." If such a disease seeps out from various parts of the body and there is only pain, then its name is "food accumulation" and "attack of undigested matter." Such an unskillful person who does not understand the benefits and harms of food, and the limits of digestion and non-digestion, if the food is excessive, resulting in food accumulation and undigested food, then if a single wind disease arises, it will invade the liver, causing stomach pain, dizziness, abdominal distension, trembling of the body, and stiffness of the body, and so on. This is called wind disease arising from undigested food. Furthermore, if a bile disease arises from such undigested food, one will be afflicted with fever, severe diarrhea, thirst, hoarseness, and so on. This is called undigested bile disease. Furthermore, if a phlegm disease arises from food accumulation and excessive undigested food, there will be anorexia, heaviness of the body and limbs, heaviness of the mouth and tongue when speaking, and unwillingness to speak. Phlegm arises from the mouth and is expelled, and so on. This is how phlegm disease arises. A person with such an undigested disease will become thin and weak.
