Thus, the minor ailments are explained in thirty-six categories. This is from the Essence of the Eight Branches, the thirty-first chapter of the latter section. Now, the treatment of minor ailments will be explained. For unripe mouth ulcers, blood should be drawn with a lotus-shaped instrument. After steaming barley-like lumps, apply a paste of sea buckthorn, rue, coltsfoot, etc., and mallow leaves. Treat stone lumps in the same way. Treat ripe mouth ulcers like wounds. For acne, pimples, and papules that harm the complexion, apply a paste of nettle pounded, or banyan leaves, or rose leaves mixed with hot medicine. If this does not alleviate, use emetics and nasal medicines, and bleed between the eyebrows. Use the stem of a lotus or the juice of neem, or fry neem oil and take it with honey. Apply neem mixed with knotgrass. For chapped lips and barley lumps, roast soil and mix it with bile, treating it like a burn. Avoid causing heat. For reticular lumps, fast, bleed, and treat roughly, and purify the body, applying a preparation of myrobalan and cooling medicine. For rashes, bleed and treat like phlegm-like lymphadenopathy. For millet-like pimples, treat like lipomas. For diseases that resemble ant heads, with many holes, growing large and swollen, located in vital areas, avoid them occurring on the legs and hands. For another location, draw blood and apply a paste of sodium sulfate, knotgrass, iris seeds, etc., and tribulus, the root of the chickpea, and sesame pounded. For ripe diseases, thoroughly cleanse the diseased flesh. Cut with a knife and then burn with ash medicine or fire. For diseases like boils, completely cut out with a sharp instrument and burn with oil. For anal atresia, treat like pearl atresia. For nearby paronychia, purify, eliminate heat, and then treat with a knife. Treat bad nails in the same way. For leg blisters, apply a paste of sour fruits and alum, etc., and sesame and bezoar, made from neem leaves. For moles with boils, burn with a magnifying glass and ash medicine, etc. Or perform moxibustion. Similarly, for skin boils and rose acne, cut with a knife and treat in the same way. For three diseases such as those with spots, bleed in the nearby area. Apply a paste of milky tree shoots and bark mixed with milk.
