Even that which has distinctions is called a name. Even a single letter, like 'ka,' is called a name. In short, the state of letters gathered together that only shows the nature of a dharma, and does not show distinctions, is called a name. It actually shows its own essence and power, and also indirectly shows the determined words. Because saying the essence can lead and symbolize it, it is called a name. Now, wanting to show its divisions, it is said, that also has two kinds: the initial name and the subsequent name. Its divisions are two kinds: the initially established name and the subsequently established name that relies on the established. Then, is the initially established name arbitrary or meaningful? To that, it is said, the initial one is an arbitrary name. For dharmas, since it is arbitrarily assigned even though it does not exist, it is arbitrary, and there is no determined word. Then, what is the subsequent one like? It is said, the subsequent ones are considered to be both virtuous and of two kinds. The subsequent one is dependent on the established, so it is meaningful. Some are wrongly connected to the meaning, so it becomes both meaningful and arbitrary. To show that, it is said, that is with or without a determined word. The meaningful one has a determined word, while the arbitrary one does not have a determined word. I will clarify those established names and subsequent names. Therefore, it is said, 'Whatever is not dependent on others, whatever is arbitrarily done, is the initial one,' and so on. Among them, the name called 'established name' is the name that is assigned to that itself without relying on the name of another thing. For example, the name 'pillar' does not rely on others, so there is no reason why it is called 'pillar.' If it is said to be dependent, then it depends on what is dependent on others, so it will not become the initial name. The subsequent one is: 'Relying on that is the subsequent one, it is considered to be both arbitrary and meaningful.' Relying on the established is the subsequent one, for example, calling a stable person a pillar, just like the pillar was established earlier, and later relying on it. Among them, the subsequent arbitrary one is a black dog.

Like calling something "conch." A meaningful one is like calling a white dog "conch." Now, if the established name is also arbitrary, and the subsequent establishment of reversing the establishment is also arbitrary, then why is the initial name called established? Although they are the same in being arbitrary, it is established because it does not rely. Because it does not rely on any other name, there is no contradiction from others. It is said that the initial name is called established because it does not rely on any other name. Why? A name that does not rely on others cannot be harmed by anything else. It cannot be negated or established. For example, a pillar is called a pillar, and one cannot use this reason to explain why it is a pillar, nor can one establish it; nor can one use this reason to say that it should not be a pillar, and one cannot establish its contradiction. In order to illustrate the examples of the two types of names, the reason for establishing with reason is like relying on the nature of phenomena. It is said, and so on. For example, the reason for establishing with reason, such as the three-mode syllogism, relies on the power of the reason of the nature of phenomena. For example, there is fire in this place because there is smoke. Smoke is also the fruit of fire, because it is not of anything else. Like this, one infers the cause through the fruit of the fruit. If one asks why smoke is the fruit of fire, it comes down to the reason of the nature of phenomena, because its nature is like that. Just as one relies on the nature of phenomena, so too does a meaningful name rely on the initial arbitrary establishment. This dog is called conch, and if one says it is because the color is white, then if one asks why white is called conch, there is nothing other than saying that its name is like that. Therefore, the subsequently established name relies on the established name. If one asks whether the subsequently established arbitrary establishment has no definite meaning, the subsequently established arbitrary establishment, in order to reverse the establishment, therefore does not establish a definite meaning. It is said that although there is a definite meaning, if one speaks it, it will become a reversed establishment, so a definite meaning is not established. The arbitrary establishment of the established name has no basis for explaining a definite meaning, so
