If it is only so, (the opponent) said: Because it is said "where to see" and so on. This refers to the fact that merely focusing on the shape is not the same as focusing on its nature. For example, just as in dim light, the object of focus is the shape of a cow, etc. The operation of the senses also merely focuses on the shape of sounds, etc., therefore, what you say is contradictory. The so-called "not grasping the difference in meaning" refers to not focusing on the difference in meaning of sounds, etc. The so-called "because there is no other shape there" refers to the fact that sounds, etc., are the nature of shapes, and there is no other shape there. If you say, "By what means can one grasp that this is the sound of a lute?", this is a violation of what was promised. If you say, "Do not let this fault arise," then, for the kind of sound, you also admit that there are other differences in shape, such as कौशिक (kauśika), etc. If so, then at that time you will fall into this fault. This is what (the opponent) said, the so-called "in meaning," etc. Meaning is one's own object, and for it, it will become conceptual. Why? (The opponent) said: The so-called "distinguished by its own meaning," etc., refers to being distinguished by the kind of sound, and also grasping its difference, कौशिक (kauśika), etc., which is the meaning. From the definite combination, the difference should also be considered as distinguished by the kind of sound, otherwise one will not grasp "this is the difference of sound." If you promise to grasp what is distinguished by the kind and its difference, then merely grasping the kind, this view is also not lost, because the word "merely" distinguishes happiness, etc., because it is not the difference of the kind of sound, etc. Therefore, this will be said, by distinguishing the particularity of things, the consciousness that grasps the distinguished thing is conceptual, just like the consciousness of "this is a spotted cow." The consciousness that has the difference of sounds, etc., as its object is also the same. This is the fault of self-nature. The so-called "if," etc., for other views, the same fault is also said. The so-called "happiness, etc., also" refers to those happiness, etc., that are only placed as the nature of sounds, etc.

This is a question about karma. For example, "not separate for the time being," and so on. Because if one clings to happiness and other things individually, then the activities of the senses will not be limited to their own spheres alone, because in all cases, happiness and other things are indistinguishable. This is also what is desired. Therefore, happiness and other things should not be clung to separately. So what is it? It is sound and so on. Therefore, only these, having completely transformed separately, become the self-nature of sound and other things. He said, "It is not said that the five transform into the differences in the arrangement of the three." Because this has been admitted, this is not existent. He would say this: whatever does not transform into the self-nature of sound and other things cannot be grasped by the activities of the ears and other senses, just like sentient beings. Happiness and other things also do not separately transform into the self-nature of sound and other things; this lacks pervasiveness. He said, "Not because it is not other itself," stating what is unproven. Whatever is not different from sound and other things can be grasped by the activities of the ears and other senses, just like sound and other things. The self-nature of happiness and other things is also like that. It is self-nature. If one says, "Not other," and so on, whatever is not different from sound and other things is not its cause, just like sound and other things. Happiness and other things are also like that; this is because of contradiction that pervasiveness is stated. Moreover, this also contradicts what has already been admitted. He said, "Whatever is spoken," and so on, stating that it has been admitted as the cause. After explaining that courage is the result of sound, because it exists in the self-nature of sound, it will be explained that dust and darkness arise for the sake of sound. After explaining that dust is the result of sound, and so on, all of this is the same as before. This is the difference: Dust causes courage and darkness to arise for the sake of the substance of sound. Darkness distinguishes courage and dust for the purpose of being present in the enemy. If, even if it is not other itself, it is considered the substance of result and cause, and if this is the case, an undesired result will occur, this is what he said. Courage and so on, and so on, whatever is sound
