The word "tsam" is for the purpose of distinguishing the differences in nature. For example, the nature of qualities such as diligence, and the individual characteristics of sounds, etc., are different. Moreover, since the distinctions arising from tranquility, fear, ignorance, and the six births, etc., are limitless, the faculties are also limitless. Just as the distinctions of types such as sounds change due to the increase and decrease of qualities, so too do the distinctions arising from the six births, etc. Therefore, it will be said: Those that differ due to the distinctions of increasing and decreasing qualities are those that are perfectly endowed with the types that are to be apprehended by different faculties, such as sounds and touch. The distinctions of sounds such as clear intelligence are also like that; this is the fault of nature. Moreover, it is also harmed by the commitment. If it is said, etc., if it is also thought that the six births, etc., which are different such as increase and decrease, etc., are the only ones that can be apprehended by the ear faculty, possessing the type of three qualities, then only one faculty can be obtained, because at all times the three qualities are not different. Those that possess the type of three qualities that are not different are those that are to be apprehended by the ear faculty, such as the six births, etc. Sounds and touch, etc., are also like that. This is merely the fault of that. Then, is it not that the faculty is manifestly accomplished by the power of karma, and not by the power of the object to be apprehended? Then, how does it become a limitless faculty or one faculty? If this is argued, we think it is from the power of karma; the ripening of karma is inconceivable. The non-Buddhists think that it is the entry of the chief, for the purpose of accomplishing the wishes of the person. To that, if only one faculty can perfectly accomplish the benefit of the person, then it is reasonable that only the nature of one faculty can completely change; otherwise, it should be argued in another way. Although there is change here, it is not said that only the three qualities are to be apprehended by the ear faculty; however, knowing that it is merely a complete change is a similar reason for the mind to follow.
