It is contradictory to say that "manifest cognition is the same as ascertainment." Ascertainment is related because it has a prior conceptualization. Generally, the doubt of a seer is that from conceptualization, when one definitely grasps things with a special nature, then ascertainment arises, such as "this is only a cow, not other than a cow." Because it has the purpose of observing the object. It means that it is because it has the necessity of experiencing the object. As for "the meaning of merely observing the object," the word "merely" is used to distinguish the remaining meaning. It will be said that adding characteristics and so on is not an action, because that is also without conceptualization. Whatever needs only to experience the object does not proceed dependent on conceptualization. To show that, namely, "how to distinguish from that," because from that also the dharma is not the same, it is impossible for that and ascertainment to arise the same, like inference. Although it would be like that, if only comparing the mere arising in relation to the power of being related to the meaning of existence, that is not reasonable, because comparing the special would become the fault of being meaningless. With doubt and inference and so on, it is also obtained that arising is the same, because those also arise from the power of being manifestly related to the correct meaning of generality and so on, so it can be known by saying "not comparing," because the knowledge of the same dharma also does not exist. The so-called "holding all aspects is a fault" means that with all aspects, that is, with having many and so on, it will also hold. If it is said that only the capable part is held, then it is said "the nature of all," etc., because there is no part. Meeting the meaning in five ways, any part that does not meet the sense faculty is simply non-existent. Moreover, because the differences of those are not different from the meaning, just like the meaning, it is also possible to generate holding for those. Then, shouldn't only the part that one wants to hold be held? Then it is said, "What is this," etc.

, when those are seen by the seer, before seeing the meaning, if asked what this is, then when one wants to hold it as undifferentiated, at the time of realizing and distinguishing seeing, this fault arises. This fault has also been stated in speaking of the encounter, so this, in speaking of knowing by meaning, also only becomes speaking. Thus, this fault should be stated to the one who says, "Encounter is the cause of grasping meaning," and the one who speaks of knowledge as a measure should also accept it as the cause of knowledge, so the fault is the same. Thus, this fault alone should be explained as recollection. If the sense and object are connected, then there would be the fault of being grasped by all selves, at that time, why is it that your three senses also do not grasp the object they are connected to by all selves? We do not accept the encounter as the cause of that, because it is not substantially existent. Furthermore, we also say that all aspects of objects should be grasped by the eye and so on. When grasping that, also because there is a reason for such confusion, therefore it is not necessarily determined in some part, because it is not differentiable. Because it is not differentiable, it is just like not grasping, this has already been said. If the other party again says this, they should not say this, because seeing things as they are, this is only a cow, this is only a horse, etc., they have said that it is directly perceived. Thus, by the power of being connected with the true meaning, this is the nature of this, they have said that it is directly perceived. Likewise, whatever is extremely established in the objects of the senses, this is sound, this is form, this is taste, this is smell, this is touch, has also been said. For what reason does the other party accept direct perception as the nature of determination? This alone is the self-meaning awareness of the determiners, whatever that is the determining differentiator. If that is not determined as another aspect, how have they grasped it? Now you also with direct perception

If it is uncertain, how can it be called 'grasping'? Because direct perception is not the nature of determining anything, and what it grasps is also not certain. What is it then? It is appearance. Therefore, the grasping and non-grasping of direct perception do not depend on certainty or uncertainty. The case of certainty is not like this; even if it is slightly certain, it will grasp or not grasp other uncertain things. Therefore, whatever is certain is its grasping. Otherwise, it will not change in any way. Even if grasped by all natures, why is it still not certain? Because the conditions that operate simultaneously are incomplete. Experience, like habitual conceptualization, generates certain things. For example, seeing shapes has no difference, but it is like the conceptualizations of taste, desire, food, and so on. Among them, intelligence itself, its habitual imprints, and timing, etc., are the causes for the arising of certainty in experience. These are merely due to the differences of 'very' and 'extremely very,' etc., that there is precedence. For example, there is no difference in the producer and the one who causes to read, but upon seeing the father coming, one first determines 'This is my father,' not 'This is the Khenpo,' just like that. The certainty of change also only occurs when there is no cause for confusion. Therefore, merely saying 'experience' does not determine all aspects. If the opponent thinks that direct perception is related to conceptualization, then why say, 'Merely observing the meaning of the object is born from the aggregation of four conditions'? Because it is established by valid cognition that sense consciousness is non-conceptual, the teacher said so based on the power of things themselves. We say this based on the view admitted by the opponent, so there is no contradiction. If the opponent admits that direct perception is the nature of certainty, then how can it be said that 'direct perception and ascertainment are produced similarly'? If it is thought that admitting 'it itself and it are produced similarly' is reasonable, that is not reasonable. This will become another fault, that is, those who think like this.
