That which does not exist is not the fruit of valid cognition, just like something that is completely non-existent. Elimination is also not existent. Because it is pervaded by contradiction. The elimination of darkness by a lamp is merely elimination, not a result, but it makes things like pots appear. Therefore, that occasion is the fault of having no valid cognition and no result. Some relations are established through the difference in the intention to establish relations. Therefore, for some relations, this sutra of the self-character of direct perception does not exist, therefore it is said that some relations. Among them, some are relationists, namely, the extremely established, the sign, and the self. The extremely established and consciousness are not different entities. The extremely established should also be regarded as being of the nature of qualities and the nature of impermanence, just like sound. If the mind is impermanent, then impermanence should also have a cause, therefore the cause of this should also be stated, and it is also a different entity. Is it because of the reason of the knower? It should be stated that what arises from the combination of self, sense faculty, mind, and object is a different entity. From whatever it arises, it is different from that, just as pots and so on arise from clay and so on. The arising of consciousness from the self and so on is also the same. Therefore, it is also different from them. The cause is also shown only by this, namely, the self and so on. For this relationship, this sutra of the self-character of direct perception is not reasonable. Others are those who speak of all relations, saying that what arises from the sign is valid cognition, therefore it is said. Is it only what arises from the sign that is valid cognition? Is it not? It should be stated that what arises from the combination of self, sense faculty, mind, and object is a different entity. Direct perception is valid cognition, this is the remaining word. For this relationship, this sutra of the self-character of direct perception should be explained in detail. Although it does not arise from the sutra, it is said to be a statement because it is explained, therefore it is said to arise from the sutra, because the combination with the sense faculty is direct perception, or the combination of the self and the mind. By mentioning the substance, it also shows that for qualities and actions, there are other self-characters of direct perception that arise from the sutra. That again applies to those who are combined with qualities and actions.

For the accomplishment of knowledge, matter is the cause; the cause of the cause is also. This means that knowledge does not easily arise for qualities and actions that are not manifested by their own basis. Therefore, its basis, matter, manifests qualities and actions, and becomes the cause of knowledge. The cause of knowledge of qualities and actions is the encounter of the senses and objects. Its cause, such as the material of a vase, is said to be the cause of the cause. Here, also, because of the principal itself, and because of the cause of gathering in one meaning, it arises from the encounter of the self and mind, and the encounters of the senses, mind, and objects are the assistants to it. Some say that if knowledge itself is valid, then the result will not change; therefore, cognition is the result, and the cognition arising from knowledge is not another meaning either. Therefore, they wish for the encounter of Shayasaka and others. If it is said to be due to a non-common cause, then other encounters are common to knowledge such as memory, and the encounter of the senses and objects is only the cause of direct perception. Because of the principal itself, the self and mind are the principal, so their encounter is also the principal; therefore, the Samkhyas and others think so. Among them, I am the principal, because I am the author of knowledge, and it is its sign, and the enjoyer of the result. The mind is also, because it is all objects, and knowledge and meaning gather in one. Even so, the contradictions with the scriptures are told by etc. Just as we infer non-direct things after seeing the direct sign related to the memory of fire etc., just seeing this generality related to memory, there will be doubt about the characteristics that are not grasped, and the establishment of doubt is the same as the subject. Just as, due to the power of being related to the correct meaning, the direct perception of "this is the nature of meaning" arises, so due to the power of being related to the correct meaning, the determination of "this is only this, not others" arises, therefore the explanation of this
