A lamp does not depend on others, and in things, it is not that which makes itself fully manifest, but it is only said to make itself fully manifest for the self-nature that is arising as fully manifest. Similarly, the mind that is arising as the self-nature of experience should be called that which makes itself fully manifest. Regarding external objects, it has already been said that it is not experiencing the meaning as it is, just as it is experienced. Then, it is not enough to just say, "It can understand the meaning that agrees or disagrees with self-awareness," why say, "When knowledge together with the object becomes the meaning"? This is because it is necessary. Because it has already been said that self-awareness is valid cognition, and by this, one should also know the self-nature of knowledge itself, and it should be clearly established that self-awareness is the only result. Then, just saying, "It can understand the meaning that agrees or disagrees with self-awareness," some may doubt, thinking that this is only relying on the direct perception of self-awareness, and establishing this as the result, but this is the result of all valid cognitions. Therefore, in order to dispel this doubt, it is said, "When knowledge together with the object becomes the meaning." The word 'meaning' also refers to the object to be measured. The term "together with the object" also refers to that which is inexhaustible to everything. Therefore, it should be said that when knowledge relies on the object to be measured by valid cognition, then it can understand the meaning that agrees with self-awareness, which is not only saying that self-awareness is the result, but also saying that it is so when it becomes an object at any time. Here, if there is no external object, then when establishing self-awareness as the result, it will be explained that the aspect of grasping itself is valid cognition. Moreover, if there is no measurable external object, then how can self-awareness be established as the result, and the aspect of grasping be considered valid cognition? Similarly, if there is a measurable external object, there will also be doubt as to whether only the aspect of grasping is valid cognition, therefore, in order to eliminate this doubt, it is said, "When..." etc., that is, for the external object to be measured.

When self-awareness is established as the result, it is only considered that the appearance of the object itself is valid, but not the aspect of grasping as only consciousness, as in the Yogacara school. Then, when is the meaning of the external object measured? In that aspect, is it not just wanting to manifest the aspect of grasping? That is because it is to become self-awareness. Why is it not established as valid at that time? It is said: At that time, it is to know what is to be known, etc. Consciousness is to become self-awareness, thus connecting the words. If it is said that even if the nature of self-awareness exists at all times, but even without relying on it, when measuring external objects, only the appearance of the object of consciousness itself is valid, but not the appearance of oneself, because for the meaning of external objects, it should not become the establisher. It is unreasonable because it is not for the sake of others, how can the aspect of grasping, with its own object as the object, become the measure of external objects? It is unreasonable for another's object to become the measure of another. Because of what, etc., the reason is stated with that characteristic itself, what is to be measured means what must be determined. Thus, thus, etc., the meaning is that consciousness determines the meaning of external objects by the power of the aspect of what is to be known. Here also, for example, when it is said that fire is inferred from smoke, this is not directly inferring it either. Then what is it? Just like the consciousness of smoke as its cause. If it is also said: The meaning is measured by it. If it is said like this, it should also be understood that it is self-awareness as its establisher. Thus, thus, the aspect of meaning, the nature of happiness and unhappiness, etc., is definitely dwelling on consciousness, thus, thus, increasing self-awareness, thus, thus, what it shows, thus, thus, the meaning of form, etc., such as happiness and unhappiness, etc., can be determined. Because if an aspect arises on that, then it becomes the self-awareness of that nature, and also from that, the object is determined by its power, otherwise it is not. Therefore, the appearance of the object itself is valid. Oh.
