What is it? For example, like saying "whoever has a high nose is black, whoever rides a horse is compassionate." This is not valid cognition. The hermit said: "Similar close apprehension, the arising of mind for an unestablished meaning, for example, seeing cow dung and remembering a cow." That is also because it is an object already apprehended, like remembrance and so on, it is not reasonable to be a valid cognition. Although it may be so, if only what is apprehended is grasped, then close apprehension is not a valid cognition. Then what is it? It is distinguished by similarity. That is also not something previously apprehended in that way, therefore the object already apprehended itself is not established, if you say so. This is not reasonable, because it can be known only from direct perception. Only distinguished by similarity, that is also because it was previously completely determined. This must be admitted without a doubt, otherwise, having seen a cow before, and later seeing a buffalo, a similar thought of a cow will arise, if it arises, that is also not a change. Therefore, holding onto things distinguished by similarity is also not able to function as a sign of another valid cognition. If even so, it should be considered as another valid cognition that holding on to something distinguished by something, then, for the nature of the blue lotus that is completely determined from direct perception, when holding the blue lotus that appears later, that should also be considered as another valid cognition, because for this, previously with the aspect of blue lotus, it is not only completely determined from direct perception, because it is non-conceptual. Although it changes like that, it should be known to be included in direct perception because it is born from sense consciousness. The sense consciousness that is proficient in terms also becomes conceptual, therefore, if there is a fault here, this is not reasonable, because it depends on names. Otherwise, not clearly knowing the name, it will also be completely determined like that. What arises from sense consciousness does not depend on names, if the nature of things cannot be determined, that is not possible. Like that, in the nature of the blue lotus, whatever thing abides, only on that, when making the name of the sound of yellow due to desire, some

Some are attached to blue, while others say it is yellow. Therefore, if one becomes ignorant, how can one say that its entities exist as they are? Because there is no indication of how things truly are, this is because of following desires, and desires are not necessarily dependent on things. Furthermore, if the thought of similarity, thinking 'this and that are similar' regarding hidden things other than what is seen, is considered another valid cognition, then why is it not necessary to examine the other seven valid cognitions regarding the thought of dissimilarity, thinking 'this and that are dissimilar' regarding hidden things other than what is seen? If it is said that it is not transformed from a valid cognition of non-things, then no, because this is because it has things as its object. Even if it transforms in that way, due to the nature of mutual absence, then what is the object of the thought of dissimilarity? It is only the object of non-things, and it should reasonably become an object of non-things. If that is the case, then the object of the thought of similarity also has this reasoning, so the thought of similarity will also become flawed by not being transformed from a valid cognition of non-things. If one thinks that not relying on the difference of similarity, but only on non-difference, relying on what is seen, previously seen and known, what is seen is proximate apprehension, and completely cuts off black and white, and later also recognizes his son, and clings to saying, 'Thus, that is this, it is the father,' then for that too, it can only be possible to recognize the father by relying on the previously taken black and white, and on the son seen later. Similarly, when climbing a ladder, when the first step has passed and the second step is obtained, regarding the step that has passed, knowing 'that is earlier than this' by relying on the step that is seen, then that will also become proximate apprehension, and that is not reasonable. Therefore, this should not reasonably become a valid cognition. Like this and so on, others as well, all those valid cognitions that are falsely established as other valid cognitions, because they are not transformed from subsequent inferential discriminations, therefore, one should abandon the idea of considering them as other valid cognitions. Among them, the most intense is to proclaim very intensely, and then to definitively indicate entering into debate.
