If explained by combining name and category, then why is it said again? For whatever reason, that will become clear later. 'Erroneous and conventionally existent consciousness,' etc., through these, the four types of apparent appearances are explained. Among them, what is meant by 'erroneous consciousness'? Like this, water and so on have no other meaning, relying solely on convention. For mirages and so on, one engages in superimposition and conceptualization arises. Regarding things that exist conventionally, etc., relying on convention to superimpose is the second way of engaging in conceptualization. Again, whatever is known about things that exist conventionally is an apparent appearance. What is the reason for this? It is said, 'because of superimposing other meanings.' That is, for imputed things, such as form, etc., which have become other meanings, such as pots, etc., the superimposition is not merely the imputed thing itself. How is this to be understood? It is said, 'because it enters by imputing its own nature.' That is, for those things that exist conventionally, the conceptualization of other meanings arises. Because it enters by examining the aspects of the superimposed meaning, the consciousness of what exists conventionally superimposes on pots, etc., but it does not merely recognize it as an imputed thing. Among these, for example, form, etc., things that have the same result as holding water, etc., are different from others. Saying it again and again, in order to closely connect with one's own result, whatever worldly linguistic convention is relied upon, for things that are separate from other pots, etc., Again, for form, etc., the conceptualization of superimposing other meanings of things is 'It's a pot!' 'It's cloth!' etc., will fully enter. Similarly, for aggregates, etc., because of clinging to words that have the result of distinguishing, one will cling to oneness, etc. Similarly, for things that arise in other places, similarly, for things that exist, similarly, for many aggregates that have the same result, similarly, for states such as being without interruption, etc. Thus,

In order to distinguish what is not transformation, relying on the designation of sound, the karma of transforming into other meanings arises, as well as existence itself and the pot itself, etc., and possessing, etc., in this way, the conceptualization of superimposition arises closely. Thus, from thoroughly distinguishing, this conceptualization of sound alone, relying solely on designation, is the second consciousness of conceptualization. For mirages and so on, the conceptualization of water and so on, because it is included within what relies solely on designation, it will not be stated separately; it is not that in order to distinguish what is not water, one relies solely on the designation of having made it water and enters completely. What then? There, for the collection of appearances, relying on designation, only the superimposition of other meanings of water and so on, which were previously seen, arises, which are not existent. Therefore, it is said that the conceptualization of entering into water and so on [arises]. Pots and so on are only non-existent apart from their own immediate causes. The reason for mere designation, the conceptualization of superimposition there, is stated as different from the previous one. Subsequent inference and its result, etc., of consciousness, which is inferred by inference, that is, the sign. There, that is indeed smoke, and at the time of connection, the conceptualization of the experienced meaning enters, which is consciousness. Its result, in the consciousness of the sign, there is also the previously experienced conceptualization, because it is inferred that this is indeed fire here. In memory, there is also the conceptualization of the aspect of previous experience,
