If a word is used to designate something without differentiating it, it does not apply by completely excluding other things. For example, when referring to a tree itself, if the word "tree" is used without distinguishing characteristics such as wood, bark, etc., it does not apply by completely excluding other things. Similarly, the word "tree" is used because the tree itself and non-trees are not distinguished. This is contradictory. Even if this is the case, those who assert universal entities do not prove anything by distinguishing some things. So, what should they do? They argue that by correctly pointing out a single object in front of them and saying, "This is a tree," at the time of designation, only the generality of what is seen or what is related to it is understood even at the time of naming. If so, it would be the same fallacy as before. If someone objects that it is not the same, because when you point out one thing and say, "This is a tree," do you designate it after determining it, or do you designate it without certainty? If you determine and say, "Only this is a tree, and others are not," then because you did not have the concept of a tree before, and you do not fully understand what is not a tree, how can you understand the complete exclusion of other things at the time of designation? If you say, "This is also a tree, and others are also trees," without certainty, then how can the cognizer say that it applies by completely excluding other things at the time of naming? This is the very error. If it is said that there is no error because it is easy to understand the opposite of what is seen, it is because for those minds that have seen some things and experienced different aspects of other things, at the time of designation, they will determine that the opposite aspect of the object grasped is another object, because their properties are different. Therefore, by thoroughly understanding that "only this is a tree," he himself will understand that whatever does not appear with this characteristic is not a tree. This is impossible for those who assert the distinction of things, because the unified nature of appearance does not recur in other things. What is grasped at the time of direct cognitive designation cannot be understood later, and even if it is understood, the clear appearance of the tree grasped at the time of designation will not be recognized as the same in other clear appearances. Therefore, just as the characteristics of a son differ from those of a father, so do the characteristics of bark, branches, etc.

If it is said, because the nature of following is not admitted. If that is so, then it is the same with the expeller here. Because although these things are different, some of them naturally produce one fruit such as cognition, while others do not. After seeing those things, the cognizer says that these are its cause, while others are not, thus distinguishing with wisdom and dividing into two categories. In this regard, this is because it arises from things that have one fruit through transmission, so it is also one who holds the meaning of non-difference. Because from the nature of arising from experiencing it, one who is more attached to external objects, when recognizing with a common aspect, those who are distinguished by the cause of one fruit itself, like external objects, do meaningful things, and like some followers of the nature of following, appear separately. After being attached to the nature of the meaning of external objects, realizing that, for the discriminating thoughts of the knower, they appear extremely non-different, like a person with cataracts seeing two moons, although each experiences their own appearance, because they are more attached to the one, so after indicating those things, when saying these are trees, the confused person sees it as the nature of following, distinguishes those who are not its cause, and easily becomes more attached to the nature of non-tree for those who have the opposite aspect. In this regard, although seeing differences, but whether seeing or not seeing, can I distinguish this as tree and non-tree, like things that are not different?
