That indicates. Regarding "that" etc. Being connected with the reason of permanence, it will become impossible to establish, thus connecting. Why is that? It is said: because of clinging to one, meaning, because one wants to say a single number, therefore one clings to establishing only one. These two reasons are mutually contradictory, therefore, it is reasonable that it cannot be established. Here, why does one not establish the only one that is free from contradiction? If so, then it completely abandons the difference. From the distinction of what is to be established, this is an explanation of the reason for understanding the number two. The particularity of what is to be established is to contemplate as having the characteristic of other-meaning and non-other-meaning. For example, just like non-eye-objectivity and manifestness, etc., the so-called oneness, just as these examine the number belonging to what is to be established, so too, the collectivity will examine the number belonging to what is to be established. This much is the similarity of the example's dharma. It will become non-different, this is because it has such a characteristic. Even if it changes like that, if one only wants non-difference? The answer is: it is not, etc. In order to eliminate the statement that merely saying that is what is to be established, the teacher said: If so, then, etc. Merely the statement of non-difference, other-meaning is not what is to be established, because there is no dispute about this. Then what is it? The non-aggregate with particularity is other-meaning. Therefore, because the aggregate that is the opposite of this establishes other-meaning, it is a contradiction. To indicate that point, it is said: Like that, etc. Here, one wants to use the word non-aggregate to explain the nature of abiding in one. Then, mattresses and cushions, etc., are also non-aggregate, accomplishing the benefit of others, therefore, if one says that in what is to be established, the example is inferior to what is to be established, the answer is: that is not, etc. If one asks: How is it not established? The answer is: Because that existence is not established, meaning, that existence itself.

If it is established, then it becomes separated from the example that needs to be established. However, this is not established either. "Contradiction from other" means that, apart from establishing the contradiction of the self-nature of dharma and dharmin, it is the difference in establishing the contradiction from the difference of dharma and dharmin that has not been spoken of. "Uncertainty of contradiction" means not confusing contradiction, because it is not confused with the meaning of contradiction, so it is a contradiction, and because it is the cause of doubt, it is uncertain. Then, is it not also different from the difference in characteristics there? Therefore, what is the meaning of saying "even by this alone"? This is not a fault, because the word "also" has the meaning of including that itself. "Similarly" and so on means that, just as establishing contradiction from the self-nature of dharma harms what is desired, if it is harmed by being seen by other valid cognitions, then because it establishes the contradiction with the self-nature, difference, and contradiction of dharmin, it should be said to be a contradiction. How is it harmed by other dharmas that are seen in what way? It is said, for example, because it is newly produced, and so on. The self-nature of sound is established through direct perception, therefore it eliminates the meaning of the promise that the self-nature of sound does not exist. "There is nothing to be heard" here means that there is no expression of sound to be heard, this is the meaning of the promise, and it should also be eliminated by the inference called fame. Harming through contradiction should be combined with these two. Why has an example of establishing contradiction from the self-nature of dharmin not been cited? Because it has already been stated closely from the characteristics, and the meaning to be expressed can also be understood through the aspect of examples, therefore an example has not been stated here. So, this is an example of contradicting the self-nature of dharmin, for example, saying that space and so on are permanent dharmas, because there are no impermanent dharmas. This reason is to establish contradiction from the self-nature of dharmin, in this way, the ability to function is also an impermanent dharma, and if it does not exist in space and so on, then it will not become a thing.
