That is what "is not" means. What is said here as "dependent on both" refers to being dependent on concomitance and separation. Even if the cause of doubt is the same, this is different. For these, whatever depends on both is also a definite cause for some things to be proven, not just a cause of doubt. Why? Because it is said, "because it is separated from others." It means to say, because it is separated from the dissimilar side. For example, for the thing to be proven that has just arisen, impermanence itself is the field of the reason for doubt, and being made is the definite reason, because it is separated from the unmade. Similarly, the intangible is not the cause of doubt for permanence and impermanence, but inaction itself is the definite reason because it is separated from action. Whatever does not depend on both, such as audibility itself and other-action itself, is not a definite cause for other things to be proven, because it is not separated from others. Furthermore, how can audibility itself not depend on both? If it becomes a property of a thing, then it must either enter into something or be separated from something. If asked this way, the answer is that there is no fault in saying that because entry and separation are uncertain. Even if they exist, they are the same as non-existent until they are determined, because they are not limbs of inference. So, audibility itself is what is to be grasped by the ear, and is characterized by being the cause of ear consciousness with its own aspect. Moreover, that is only the impermanence of fire, not the permanence of genus, because it is unreasonable to be able to perform functions in all ways. The nature of being able to perform functions, the thing, has already been said. Therefore, there is no doubt that audibility itself only enters into impermanence. Therefore, if it is said, how can it be said that concomitance and separation are uncertain? This fault does not exist. Because the opponent also admits that permanence is a thing, therefore it is said in consideration of his intention. According to one's own system, audibility itself is only the reason for impermanence.

Some argue that, for the object of measurement itself, which does not rely on either, there is no other way than to slander the unconditioned, because following is unreasonable, so following without error exists only in the concordant side, therefore they assert the reason of only the follower. This is unreasonable, how can it not revert from the discordant side? Or how can it exist only in the concordant side? If the existence in the concordant side itself cannot be fully determined, then what is the result of this determination? Even if it is fully determined, how can it not revert? Because reversion is nothing other than determining existence. Neither following nor reverting, this is contradictory, because whatever is not, is the prevention of following, which itself is reversion. Therefore, the so-called reason of the follower does not exist at all. The object of measurement itself also does not possess following and non-reversion in the discordant side, because there are three kinds of dharmas, namely, the dharmas of things, such as arising, etc.; the dharmas of non-things, such as non-arising, etc.; and the dharmas of both, such as the object of measurement itself, etc. If it is said that non-existence is simply not any dharma, then, is not the so-called being separate from all dharmas itself its dharma? Because what is created by the mind is not contradictory even to non-existence. Being separate from all natures is non-thing, thus the mind that arises closely shows being separate from all things as its dharma, therefore, in its thought, even for non-thing, it should be established as dharma. Then, when, etc., because this is uncommon, it has already been said to be the cause of doubt, when the sound itself is considered to be audible, then from where is this the cause of doubt, how is it uncommon? At that time, this, etc., in the state of not relying on both, because it is uncommon, it is said to be the cause of doubt, when the sound itself is also considered to be audible, then this will only rely on both, and then this will be considered
