All such characteristics, one desires to express a single number, and scriptures such as these have clarified this, without fault. And for what reason was the sutra of its characteristics made? It was for the purpose of understanding that it is not the primary cause. That which is not primary is: in terms of things, it is not valid cognition itself, because even scripture, for the time being, is not valid cognition in terms of things. What need is there to mention the knowledge that arises from its established sign? In terms of commitment, it is established as valid cognition, and this is sufficient as it arises incidentally. From the two, neither doubt nor certainty can be obtained from speech, thus one speaks of the lapse of commitment. From being made and being heard, just as from correct knowledge and its opposite, certainty without doubt will be obtained, and from being non-perceptible by the eye and from direct perception, just as from doubt, there is no certainty. The two, that is, the characteristics of doubt and ascertainment, this is attributing the result to the cause, the causes of doubt and ascertainment are expressed by the words of doubt and ascertainment. One desires to express a single number to that which possesses the characteristics of reason and so forth, but not merely to being made and being heard, there is no characteristic of the cause of doubt, nor are being non-perceptible by the eye and direct perception the characteristics of the cause of ascertainment. What then? To those that are together. Here, "what" is the question posed because of the possibility of being common and uncommon. Non-contradictory and non-confused, that is, temporarily, the word "temporarily" indicates that common and uncommon things are not suppressed, and are not the cause of doubt. In order to establish the meaning of contradiction, contradiction is also those, and those that are not confused are also, that is, those that are non-contradictory and non-confused. In order to indicate the collection by the dharma of the limbs, one should say non-contradictory and non-confused. Or the non-confusion of the nature of contradiction, that is, it exists in this, therefore it is non-contradictory and non-confused, that is because it is impossible for contradiction to have the same meaning, therefore it is the cause of doubt. It does not exist in one alone, etc., thus completely avoiding the lapse of commitment, that is, only in one, the dispute of doubt.

Regarding what you have done and what should be heard, it has been declared that there is no difference. Similarly, regarding what is not seen by the eye and what is directly perceived, it is also the cause of certainty. If so, how can it be determined from the many? If it is said that it cannot be determined at all, it is because one wants to express uniqueness. That also exists. Therefore, it is not reasonable to want to express the uniqueness of the number. Then, is it not the intention to express the uniqueness of things established in the scriptures? These are established only by valid cognition that enters through the power of things themselves. So why is this the case? This fault does not exist. Because the other party does not understand the object that the teacher wants to express uniqueness, and thinks that it is intended to express uniqueness for all objects, therefore he argues. The teacher thinks that it may be so for the time being, but later he will clarify his intention, so he admits and answers. Non-contradiction, etc., is to establish the meaning of non-contradiction, so it is non-contradictory. In terms of its meaning, even if there are many, there is no fault because it is only one because it does the same thing. If so, where, etc., it is again said that it is unreasonable to want to express the same meaning. Each one there, etc., shows that it does the same thing, and only answers that. Then, where, etc., having limbs means that for the limbs, other refers to the different things to be established here, because it depends on the boundaries between each other, the difference of others The limbs and the one with limbs are the things to be established. Here, the reason is also different, because it is a matter of doubt and certainty. Doubt and certainty, etc. If so, only a single object is targeted, and for the limb yarns, etc., certainty is visible, while for the one with limb cloth, etc., there is doubt, is this cloth or a curtain, etc. For things that have doubt and certainty, that is other, such as for monks and robes, etc., only seeing the robe, there is certainty about the robe, but there is doubt about the monk, is this a Shakya monk? Or is it a yellow-robed monk?
