Therefore, for the direct perception of a confused person who says, "This is exactly that," it does not cause him to have certainty about it. And also because there is no certainty, it cannot be the object of expression, just like not having grasped it. Therefore, it is not itself a valid means of cognition for that, but for any object that can generate certainty and is fully entered into through memory, that is the valid means of cognition. Why? Because a valid means of cognition itself has the result of full entry. Therefore, for uncertain aspects, it generates certainty and causes one to fully enter into it, so it is not contradictory to say that inference is a valid means of cognition. Then, how should the treatise that says there is no other valid means of cognition for the second thought be explained? If it is said that as long as it does not become a valid means of cognition, it is reasonable to say that it is not a valid means of cognition. Although this is true, there is no fault because the other party has put forward the view that "there is another valid means of cognition," and therefore it is refuted in that way. Moreover, "repeated cognition is also not a valid means of cognition," that is, if recognition is taken as the result, then whatever part sees the difference is not a valid means of cognition, that is its meaning. If repeated cognition and recognition are things, then they have no difference, even so, they should be distinguished like a valid means of cognition and its result. The consciousness that arises from the object to be recognized, because it holds the object previously held, is called recognition. Moreover, the word "again" indicates that the consciousness that holds "color and so on are impermanent" again for the object held by direct perception is also not a valid means of cognition. Here, the word "repeatedly" explains the meaning of "not once." Then, if holding the previously held object again is also a valid means of cognition, then what is the meaning of saying "not once"? There is no fault in this, because it is only to show the other party's view. Because the Samkhya school says that seeing the difference is the characteristic of inference, that is, at any time, through the same smoke, one can repeatedly recognize the same fire. Therefore, in order to show their view, it is said in that way, but it is not said that holding again is not a valid means of cognition. Therefore, for the object that is the basis of dispute, it is not recognized as having no cause, therefore... Why? Because to ask
