Thus it is shown. "With that desire," it is said. The reason for mentioning "that desire" is that even those with their own desires and those with desires are not manifest. "Having acknowledged that," it is said that the sound of "that" should be connected to "that desire." "Not a cause of inference," the word "of" is either different in order or should also be viewed as a definite apprehension, meaning that it is only not a valid reason. "Because there is no difference between the two," etc., means that even for both of the related ones, there is no difference in having. And from that, both fire and smoke will become knowable and knowing things, because in all ways, they also possess the nature of all. Those with possession, etc. Also, it is not to be understood by its own nature. That is, the nature is whatever can be grasped even without knowing the connection, which is the nature of smoke, etc., because they are not suitable for subsequent understanding. Why? It is said: It is not inference. Etc. Will those who understand more with the nature of meaningful connection be helpful? It is said: No. Etc., meaning that sense consciousness is not an object of combination, nor is it one who possesses it. With this, it has already been said that with the nature of the possessor, the possessors, etc., will not become manifest. Thus it changes, but the names of inference, etc., are not those with prior manifestation. The nature of those is that whatever is desired is faultless. That is, it is not from that that the negation is spoken. Thus it is declared: inference, close indication, and close measurement, etc. Also, how is it that it is not spoken with one's own mind? It is said: Because other connections have not been shown. That is, apart from the connections that the Vaisheshikas, etc., wish to manifest, there is no connection that is necessarily shown. Whatever mountain dweller speaks of this inference with his own mind. Inference is the wisdom that arises from seeing one side of a known connection to another side that is not close. There are two types of these: seeing the connection with direct perception and seeing in general. That is also the inference of the Vaisheshikas.

It is only so. If one wishes to state only those relationships, then, since "the other characteristics of those things themselves are not clearly indicated," it is only that inference is not clearly indicated. Since "memory also arises from seeing one aspect, to a single other aspect that was previously understood," that will also become inference. It has already been said that relationships are not to be apprehended by the senses. Therefore, why is it said that it is the direct perception of relationships? This is unreasonable. The negation of things understood through meaning and non-existent things should be stated, because those are stated according to their own wishes. In "grasping through meaning, such as smoke and things that serve as a basis, etc.," the word "etc." encompasses the various differences of proof, such as ashes and white, with a single word. The second "etc." also encompasses the various differences of actions such as drawing water. The reason for mentioning meaning is that phenomena arise from that, because without those, phenomena would not be established. Therefore, it is unreasonable elsewhere, so all those are grasped only through meaning. Also, how can it be inference? If one asks, how much is it that seeing things from a sign with three modes is called inference? "It should be understood from the sign of burning itself," burning is a sign because smoke and other things do not arise without it. Not arising without it is because it arises from it. Therefore, just as inferring fire from smoke, it is no different from inference because it arises only from the sign. Others want to understand results and causes through meaning, from things that exist and do not exist. Others say that that "only reason" is called another valid cognition. For example, if the eye exists, the consciousness of the eye will arise, and if it does not exist, it will not arise, therefore, the eye is only its cause. This should not be inference, because there is no example. Another valid cognition will establish an example, and here, another valid cognition will not establish an example either. If someone thinks that the seed and sprout, etc., are the example itself, then there too, only through this will the things of result and cause be established, and that is also unreasonable, because what
