It was said to specifically eliminate the nature of being a cause, so it was said, "Whatever is contradictory," and so on. The perfect combination of wind and clouds contradicts the function of rain, because they cannot coexist. Here it is said that the function of rain is not a sign either, because it proves the Dharma that contradicts it. Then, if asked what that is, it is non-existence. If wind and clouds are perfectly combined, there is no function of rain. The absence of the function of rain and the combination of wind and clouds are not contradictory either, because they exist simultaneously. Although there is change here, whatever is the absence of the function of rain is only the difference of that moment, and obtaining only the moment of the function of rain from that, is that a sign? How can non-existence be a difference of existence? Even if it is its difference, it will not only become non-existence, because the difference has become the nature of things. Even if the meaning is different, there is the same fault, because the statement "Whatever is contradictory is not a sign" is unanswerable. Similarly, it should also be said to others that wherever something has not become an object of observation, there is no perfect combination of wind and clouds, because it contradicts the absence of the function of rain. Here, the absence of the function of rain is not a sign either, so what is it? It is the function of rain. The function of rain and the absence of the perfect combination of wind and clouds are not contradictory either. Similarly, in "arising of arising," the function of wetness itself, moisture, contradicts water soaking and binding, and moisture is not a sign either, so what is it? It is non-existence. Similarly, in "non-arising of non-arising," greenness itself and the perfect combination of fire are contradictory, and here they are not signs and objects with signs either, so what are they? They are their opposites. What has been said also, existence is impermanent, like things; the result is the cause, like the general and the specific. From the statement "things, qualities, and actions have no difference," the treatises only state that things, qualities, and actions are the objects of cause. Here also, from "non-arising is arising," etc., because it is said that non-existence is the cause. How can non-existence be a sign of things? Thus asked.

We do not say that the non-existent is a sign of things. What then? It is understanding when it arises, etc. Why? Because what is indicated is precisely the most famous prior condition. The smoke of something is perfectly associated with fire, and if it becomes extremely famous at the time of establishing the connection, then only from seeing that smoke can one infer fire, and not another. Therefore, only understanding smoke, etc., is a sign. For its object, constancy itself is closely examined, like sandalwood shavings. Because there is no connection, it is not the wisdom of a sign. It means that if something is not connected with something, then it is not a sign of it, for example, a pot is like the appearance of cloth. Not seeing the pervasive sign, it is also not connected with the wisdom of the sign. The meaning of connection is also, etc. When it is said to be extremely famous in oneself, what others say is a sign that is extremely famous in oneself, it is not, because it is other. Because other things cannot know other things, because it would be too extreme. Therefore, this sutra is closely placed. It will be said that everything is not a sign of other things, so what is it? It is only that whatever is connected with any of the connections such as cause and effect, that is what is indicated. Because it shows that it arises from signs. It means that from the word "arising from signs," in this sutra, through the wisdom of signs, it is indeed shown to be necessarily arising from signs. From this, for the commitment that it is the sign itself, it will be harmed by the commitment. If it is thought that the wisdom to be inferred is determined here to be necessarily arising from signs, but not the wisdom of signs, then it is said that the wisdom to be inferred is, etc. If it is thought that the wisdom of signs arises from signs, then, in that case, this wisdom to be inferred will be separated from the result. If the wisdom to be inferred does indeed arise from signs, then its arising means that that thing has already been known, so there is no result. Therefore, that
