Because grasping itself gives rise to conceptualization. Therefore, for conceptualization with a single image, a cause must be stated. And other than habituation, nothing else can be stated, just like conceptualization of tastes and so on. If this is the case, then conceptualization arises from the nature of previous habituation, and thus it can be established that conceptualization and other minds are without beginning. If someone asserts non-conceptualization, then according to the aforementioned reasoning, conceptual minds will never arise. If it is said that they arise later through the power of conventions, then a person with non-conceptual consciousness cannot be indicated by conventions. This is because as long as the generalities of sounds or the generalities of meanings do not appear in the mind, indication is not possible. And in non-conceptual consciousness, generalities do not appear, and what appears is only their own characteristics, or it is not a definite indication, because that is the meaning of conventions. The own characteristics seen at the time of indication cannot exist at the time of conventions, therefore it is not an indication of own characteristics. Therefore, before indication, it is necessary to acknowledge conceptualization without fail, and it cannot be established without habituation, therefore it can be established as being without beginning. Furthermore, if someone does not want the first consciousness that arises at birth to follow the imprints of previous habituation, then how will they achieve happiness? For example, searching for breasts and so on, and starting to cry when they cannot find them, and immediately sucking and breathing after finding them. Newborn infants and animals also think that this is the source of happiness, and that is the source of suffering, how do they become attached? Sometimes they have not experienced that breasts and so on can pacify the causes of hunger and other sufferings. Also, newborn monkeys and other cubs, remembering the suffering of falling from a cliff, are afraid and cling tightly to their mothers, and avoid places like cliffs, they have not experienced that falling from a cliff and so on are the causes of harm.

Those who have not experienced the results of pursuing what is desired and rejecting what is not desired, are not abandoning or accepting, because that would be too extreme. The example of a magnet attracting iron is also not appropriate, because it is not without cause, as that would be too extreme, leading to the conclusion that everything exists, and so on. Even if there is a cause, how can the attraction and repulsion of the magnet be explained? It should be said that the cause of the magnet is to facilitate abandonment and acceptance. This cannot be explained except through habit. Therefore, it can be established that the terms and names used by children to accept what is desired and reject what is not desired are due to prior habits. This refers to beginningless wisdom. As it is said, "The mind's wisdom is autonomous," and so on. Furthermore, "sucking milk, etc.," these common refutations will be explained later, so there is no need to elaborate. Furthermore, if those Lokayatas (materialists) admit that things are momentary, then it contradicts their own commitment, that is, their own established tenet, because they have committed to the elements being permanent. If they admit that things are momentary because it is in accordance with reason, then they should admit the supreme principle of mind-only, because the reason for admitting it is also equally in accordance with reason. Why? Because it has been said, "They are not subjects with limbs," and so on. "They" refers to the great elements. What will be explained is that the external objects will be examined immediately. If the elements do not exist, then how do they appear? It has been said, "The external object itself," and so on. "Not from other" refers to the term "external object" being different from consciousness. Then, why are there names such as earth in the world and in the scriptures? It has been said, "By consciousness itself," and so on. If the elements do not exist, then what is the cause of knowing? It has been said, "At that time, from that," and so on. Other than knowing, the others are the four great elements.
