Nor is it undecided, for it would be too extreme. Nor is it contradictory, for it exists on the same side. Therefore, the body is neither the proximate cause nor the co-emergent cause, so it is established that consciousness arises from the power of previous consciousnesses. If someone thinks that whatever is certain to exist together should be something that can be proximately taken, like fire and light. The consciousness of body and mind is also certain to exist together, this is the nature of reasoning. Therefore, this is not established for any reasoning, because in the formless realm, although there is no body, the state of consciousness is admitted. Nor is it desired, for consciousness would also become the proximate cause of the body. Nor is it undecided, because it is possible to exist together even with different causes, just like the melting of fire and copper. Just as fire begins to melt copper, but it is not just fire. Similarly, for this, the proximate cause of the body, such as softness, etc., consciousness is the body that begins to co-emerge, therefore they exist together, but they are not the proximate cause and the object that can be proximately taken, so it is undecided. Furthermore, if the later consciousness also arises from the power of previous consciousnesses, then the body that first arises is its proximate cause, therefore it is not established as beginningless, thinking like this is also incorrect, because it has been explained that there is no valid cognition to establish this idea. If it is said that there is no harm, that is not right, because there is indeed harm. If consciousness arises once from the body and later arises from the same kind, then at that time, all later consciousnesses will only arise from previous consciousnesses, and will not arise from different kinds of things such as eye consciousness. Once smoke arises from fire, it will not later become other different kinds of things. Later

Therefore, it is not the case that mental wisdom is experienced only as arising from mental consciousness. What then? It arises from the uncertain cause of the immediately preceding condition. Whatever is intended to prove that it arises first from something, it should not arise from anything other than that, because it would become causeless. First, mental wisdom is experienced as arising from the uncertain cause of the immediately preceding condition of eye consciousness, etc. Therefore, it is established that it arises only from uncertain consciousness. Furthermore, if the body is the immediate cause of mental wisdom only at the beginning and not later, then why would it not operate independently of the body? It should not rely on a body that is of no benefit. According to your view that wisdom is preceded by something else, why does it sometimes not operate? Does it not operate? For example, in the formless realms. Whoever has attachment to form, it is because they operate in dependence on it, so it is undeniable. If it is admitted that the body also helps later, then the stream of consciousness would become non-arising, because other bodies that are the immediate cause of consciousness, without any deficiency, would still exist to produce it. In this way, whatever consciousness arises from a particular body, since it produces other consciousnesses from that, an infinite stream of consciousness would arise in each moment of a single sentient being, but there is no such experience. Or, if it is not desired that the body provide help separately as the immediate cause later. What then? To say that because the stream, from its own immediate cause, the operation of mental wisdom, the body acts together in the production of subsequent results, therefore it does not operate independently of the body, is also untrue. Whatever is known to produce something in a certain way, it produces it in that way, and not in another way, because there is no difference. Like this,

Even if we experience that, taking the non-disappearance of eye consciousness and so on as the object, the nature arises, but that does not cause other forms to arise. Regarding the nature of what is to be grasped: Other than what is grasped, there is no cause of arising, form and so on are actually aids to the mind, they can only help and have no other use. As it is said. If it is not like this, then the nature of the effect arising from the cause will not be established as different or non-different, because it does not follow the help that belongs to it. If so, it will become causeless. At first, you also did not take the body as the immediate cause, except for those who directly generate consciousness. So what is it? It is the direct helper, and it also exists later. Why doesn't it become the immediate cause? If it is not like this, then it should not have become before, because there is no difference from later. Later, it cannot be said that the body that works together with the previous consciousness will become the immediate cause of the later consciousness, because the immediate cause has already been widely prevented before, and the first consciousness that arises will also become the one that is preceded by other consciousness. Therefore, in the school of thought that contemplates arising: Body and mind arise simultaneously, later determined by their own kind, if you say the body has power, where is the deficiency? As it is said, this refutation by the teacher is very reasonable. Therefore, the mind's consciousness is established as beginningless. Or, all consciousness is established as beginningless, like this, the first consciousness that arises is one of the root consciousness or mind consciousness. For the time being, the first case is not like this, because in states such as sleep, fainting, and unconsciousness, the root consciousness exists, but because there is no subsequent attention that follows, the root consciousness does not arise.
