, because the causes are different, and it would become impossible to arise simultaneously. The view that it arises from a collection is also incorrect, because if one root does not exist, it would also become non-existent, just as when one acting together does not exist, sprouts and the like would be damaged. The view that the root does not exist is also incorrect, because hands and the like attached to the body would also become its cause. If the special cause is the root, then it would become wanting to have the root, because it is not possible to show a special other than having the root. The view of the proximate cause is also incorrect, like this, the nature cause that follows all the differences belonging to the result, which constantly has self-nature, because it is close, it benefits it, which, without changing, the difference of the cause that the result cannot change, that itself is called the proximate cause, for example, wanting the collection of the nature of clay, the former is like the proximate cause of the latter collection of results named vase. Whichever wants to make something change, the proximate cause of that makes that change by changing, otherwise it is not. If the previous proximate cause of unobstructed ability exists, then who can hinder the result that wants to arise later? For example, the result of wanting to arise, such as a vase, without hindering the previous nature of the clay, because it produces a moment of no ability, it is not a change. The way of all changes is just like this, producing the next moment of the proximate cause without ability. Otherwise, in reality, there would be no contradictions. If, like the cause changes, the result would also actually change, not through the way the proximate cause changes. If, for example, a lamp, during the period its light enters another realm, is changed by obscuration, then that is not its actual proximate cause, the lamp is not. Then what is it? It is light.

The previous moment and the next moment, in order to accomplish the change of nature that the moment itself is incapable of, the obscuration diminishes the light. Furthermore, whatever changes by the power of something, that is not its immediate cause, just as a calf changes by the power of cow semen. The mind that accomplishes the change of nature such as unhappiness by practicing unpleasant things etc., is also caused by the power of the body, which is a contradictory pervasion. However, when the body grows due to food and sleep etc., the transformation of the mind with the nature of attachment etc., is only seen to be accomplished. Even if it is seen, what will happen from that? Just by that, the reason is not established, because it is said that if something does not change, then what causes it to change is not its immediate cause. In some cases, even if the body does not change by practicing unpleasant things etc., the mind may change, so how can the reason not be established? Sometimes it becomes like that, and because it follows its transformation, it is not reasonable to think that it is its immediate cause, because it would be too extreme. If that is the case, then the object would also become the immediate cause, for example, seeing terrible objects such as tigers and leopards, sometimes the previous mind's dullness of mind only arises due to its power. Just by that, the mind's intelligence does not depend on it. Because by using desire and sorrow etc., when the mind weakens, the body is seen to change, so it would be inferred that it is the immediate cause of the body. However, it must be what actually follows the change of something, that is its immediate cause, and the change of nature such as desire etc., is certainly not changed from the body's complete growth etc., because some people with discernment have complete body growth.

However, because that does not exist. Similarly, for those who engage in much inappropriate attention, the body is very strong, or for some belonging to animals, the body is very weak, yet attachment and the like are seen to be very prevalent. If something does not exist, yet it exists, it is not reasonable to be its result, because it would be too extreme. Attachment and the like also cannot directly arise from the body, because inappropriate attention and the like would obstruct it. For example, when the body is strong, one experiences happiness and the like generated by the moments of inner tactile objects. From this, beings with desire and inverted minds of permanence and the like discriminate, thinking, "This benefits or harms me," thus discriminating benefit and harm to oneself. From this, complete joy and contentment and the like arise towards it. From this, manifest knowledge and the like arise, with happiness and the like as their object. This can be understood from progression and regression, because attachment and the like are seen when contentment and the like exist. Even if strength and the like exist, if it does not exist, it is not seen. Therefore, strength and the like are actually existent, but are not factors that change the mind. For that very reason, since the body is not a direct benefactor, it is also not a cooperator of the body. It is established that benefits arising from sprouts and the like are generally known to be direct cooperators, for if it were not so, it would be too extreme. Therefore, attachment and the like, which arise from the awakening of seeds of the same kind, and the strength of the body, youth, time, and the like, are causes for the awakening of habits for some who are not accustomed to discriminating thoughts. Although the mind's intelligence, which arises from the body's own appropriation, may sometimes directly confer benefits, even so, if the body declines, it will not accomplish that decline, just as even if the fire goes out, the pot and the like do not decline, because its own appropriation has not declined, so it will not become undesirable. Reason.
