Therefore, because the meaning of sound constantly increases, the objects of experience of sound and conceptualization, which are their own characteristics, have been eliminated. Thus, what is established by conceptualization is the meaning of sound. Or, the objects of experience of sound and conceptualization may be their own characteristics, but even so, because they are included in inference, direct perception is not another valid cognition. If someone doubts, how can this be included in inference without being produced by a sign with three aspects? In order to show that it is produced by a sign with three aspects, it is said, "The three aspects of this," and so on. Being similar to a cow is the reason. Cow dung being the object of sound is the property to be established. At the time of establishing the name, the cow dung that appears in the wisdom of conceptualization and abides in the wisdom is the example. The cow dung that is appearing is the subject. If someone thinks that at the time of the statement "cow dung is like a cow," the cow dung does not abide in the wisdom, and if that is the case, the example is not established. If you think so, then the meaning of the word "also" in the phrase "abiding in the wisdom" is that it is not only not an object of the eye. If the similarity of a cow does not appear at all in the wisdom, then on what basis is the statement "this is like a cow" made? The statement is also made, therefore, it must be admitted that at the time of establishing the name, some aspects of the similarity of a cow abiding in the wisdom are appearing. Thus, for the time being, it is admitted that the object to be measured by direct perception is not the relationship between sound and meaning, and it has been determined that it is grasping what has already been grasped and is included in inference, therefore it is argued that this is not a valid cognition. Now, there is no other relationship except for those with a relationship, and those with a relationship have already been grasped by other valid cognitions. For example, at the time of establishing the name, it is grasped by the consciousness in which the sound appears, and later, it is grasped by the name of the cow dung present in front. By what means does direct perception become a valid cognition? What other object to be measured is there besides those? In order to show this, it is said, "Those with a relationship," and so on. This explains that because it is grasping what has already been grasped, it is not a valid cognition. It has been established.

This is an examination of the meaning of the words of karma. If someone thinks that the consciousnesses of the ears, etc., grasp separately what they each interpret, and then combine them, this is done by approximate measurement. Therefore, approximate combination becomes a valid means of cognition through combination. If one thinks this way, then "separate" etc. are mentioned. Like fragrance, sweetness, etc. This refers to being separated from the meaning of desire. Just as the thing being experienced is sweetness, and this is fragrance, similarly, for the object already grasped, the consciousness of the nature of combination is not a valid means of cognition, and likewise, this is not a place of change. Therefore, it seems that the reasoning of name and combination is the consciousness related to name and combination. As it has been said, it is not beyond memory. If someone thinks that association is never done through a common dharma anywhere, then what is it? Actually, it is pointing out a named thing, saying "This is a cow," and seeing it done that way, but it is not so for a hidden object. If one thinks this way, then "infinite" etc. are mentioned. "Possessing all declarations and reasoning" refers to the consciousness related to name. "For the lord of men" etc. refers to the king etc. In order to indicate that which produces infinite means, the example given is: From among those etc. For example, some people say to someone: 'Brother, go and look at the lord of men who is walking with many men riding horses and elephants.' That person then says to him: 'Among those, who is the lord of men?' That person says: 'The one who is shielding the sun's rays with a white umbrella is the lord of men among those.' That person accepted that instruction, went and saw. For that king distinguished by the differences mentioned above, the thought arises, 'This one's name is the lord of men,' and this, according to your view, would become another valid means of cognition. Why? Because it does not need to rely on common dharma etc. This indicates that it is not included in the four valid means of cognition. Dwelling in the non-mother, one's own common characteristic...
