Light transforms into different forms and colors, and is the object perceived by various senses. However, it does not become different entities. If it is said to be one because there is no difference in kind, then it is the same as the senses themselves. Therefore, if consciousness is the same, it is one, and not different senses. Thus it is said. However, this is not true, even if difference is established by different consciousnesses, it is because they are the same. In this way, it can also be said in this way: because consciousnesses are different, things are different, which is uncertain. In this way, when many people look at the same form, because many visual consciousnesses arise, there is indeed different consciousness, but at this time different forms do not exist either. If it is understood as one because the types of visual consciousness are not different, then form, taste, etc. should also become one, even if there are different consciousnesses, because the types of consciousness are not different. If so, it contradicts what was said: "Because form etc. also change, different consciousnesses are not one." Therefore, this is self-contradictory. If it is said that even if their own characteristics are different, in the world where the names of different and non-different are fully established as the cause of recognizing one and many, if the cause of different and non-different consciousnesses is taken, then everything is the same as the senses, so it is enough to stop the complexity. The so-called "not arising from that" also has no natural connection arising from that, because it is confused, and even if it is meaningless, it only arises from the desire to speak. There is no other non-confused thing other than the nature of arising from that, because it is too broad. Therefore, sound is not the nature of the external object. If so, then how? "The inference arising from sound is not another measure, as such, like what is done, etc., it is an expression of one's own meaning that excludes others." As it is said, in order to meet this doubt, in order to show how it is desired to include it in the inference, it is said "Therefore, all the words", etc. The so-called "from the remainder" is to show the intention to be non-human-made.

Among these. That which is intended to be expressed is also its result, therefore it is understood from the words, not from the thing to be expressed itself. Because it is certain that the continuum of words that follow and contradict in one's own continuum is what one intends to express. It is expressed by eliminating others. What is said there is to make the expression clear, which is synonymous with making known. It is also said that from this connection, it clarifies by completely separating other meanings, just like something done. It must be understood in this way, otherwise the example of something done will be incomplete. It is not possible to express something done, because it is the nature of sound. If that is the case, then the reason, 'because it is expressed by eliminating others,' becomes uncommon. However, it is not reasonable for the intention to express sound to be a valid cognition, because it is mistaken in the distinction of what one intends to express. The mistake is because one sees other words when one intends to express something else. It is also not valid in the general sense of wanting to express, because it is fruitless. The mere discrimination of what one intends to express is not a part of the term anywhere, because the distinction of meaning cannot be determined from it.

It is so. Furthermore, for those words that have become signs, the fault lies with those who cannot definitively grasp the distinctions between them, not with the signs themselves. A sign is not intended to be understood merely by its existence; rather, it is understood through certainty. Therefore, this is the fault of the one who understands. If it were not so, then in some cases, doubt would arise due to the possibility of steam and other phenomena existing elsewhere. Since it does not cause understanding, it cannot become a sign for proving fire. Moreover, when all these terms of sound, like two people with blurred vision seeing two moons, are considered to be unerring in their own appearance, then, in order to show the confusion regarding the distinction one wishes to express, it would follow that it is not a valid means of knowledge (pramana), because one has not truly accepted that the distinction one wishes to express is a valid means of knowledge. As it is said: It depends on convention; if clarity is placed in the mind, then it is to show subsequent inference, but not relying on that itself. So it is said. In order to show that the generality of what one wishes to express is also a valid means of knowledge. "Those," and so forth, are mentioned, that is, the generality of all that one wishes to express, combined with delusion and non-delusion, is indeed subsequent inference, and there is no contradiction. Uniqueness exists because there is no delusion. Like a wish-fulfilling jewel, that person, merely by approaching, can cause what is desired to appear even from walls and so forth. Having made this promise, one should not doubt delusion, because for it, the very intention to express is the cause of the word, because the power of conditioned phenomena, imbued by previous aspirations, causes speech to occur there. Thus, when reciting familiar texts, even when causing others to understand, the activities of words and recitation, and so forth, occur, because previous thoughts are not the cause of those. If it were not so, then even in the case of a cowherd's pot and so forth, since smoke is also observed, the sign of smoke and so forth would have to be considered a delusion. Therefore, for all signs of effects, depending on place, time, and so forth, it is not possible for delusion to exist.
