Because it is non-existent, it is called reliance because it relies; it is a synonym for "completely holding." The statement by the teacher is to show that it does not contradict that system. What is to be grasped, called what is to be grasped, is the dharma to be established, a synonym for "property of the subject." If it is said, in the second case, it is explained that if the very nature of the dharma to be established does not have the thing to be established as the reason, then non-occurrence itself is the characteristic of the reason. As it is said: Others think that in the example, the reason is not seen without the probandum. This subject that I speak of, if it does not exist, it is impossible to exist, determined by the understanding of the meaning, is not the inference of a monk, but is considered elsewhere like a lion. The subject is called the subject to be established. For the subject to be established, this dharma to be established is the meaning of the state of impossibility. Then, if that is the case, on the subject to be established, by which valid cognition can the reason be established? If it is established that without the probandum it will not appear, then only through that can the probandum also be established, therefore the reason is meaningless. If the probandum is not established, then the reason is also not established, because the characteristic of the reason is that on the dharma to be established, without the probandum it will not appear. Not appearing without the probandum, if the probandum is not established, it will not be established, therefore the reason is not established, because not appearing without the probandum is because both are established that it will not appear. If the probandum is established by another valid cognition, then the reason is established? If that is the case, what does the reason do? Because the probandum has already been established. The probandum must be determined from the reason. It will also become the fault of mutual dependence. If asked how, it is said "from the two" etc., establishing the probandum is a prerequisite for the establishment of the reason, because the reason is for that meaning, and the establishment of the reason with the characteristic of not appearing without the probandum is also a prerequisite for the establishment of the probandum, therefore mutual dependence is obvious. In the third case, it is said that in the example as well, auspiciousness is the one to be established.

It is the meaning of the example's subject of dharma being different from the subject of dharma to be proven. The so-called "that is established" means that the reason is established. This is shown as follows: If there is no reason on another similar subject of dharma that is not the subject of dharma to be proven, then it is accepted that it does not arise. It is not that all are included together with the subject of dharma to be proven. Then, how can the thing to be proven be understood from the reason of the subject of dharma to be proven? If it cannot be understood, then "its entirety" and so on are stated. Now, with "anything" and so on, the examples are refuted, because the reason stated as "how also because of the object" is meaningless, because there is no place for doubt, it is the statement of establishing what is already established. For the established object, there is no need for a reason. What is it then? It is for doubt. Thus, just as it is thought that the reason is stated for doubt, for what is already established, it is not the basis of the reason, because what is to be proven has already been established. If it is again thought that there is also a place for reason here, which is doubt, therefore "of things" and so on are stated. When the way things exist is completely certain for everyone, then why say that the thing is the nature of how it exists? "Its nature" means the nature of existence. "Thing" is an indication, even without a thing, it shows the nature of existence with the nature of what can be measured and so on. Because of certainty, the reason is meaningless. If it is not established for the Samkhyas and so on, therefore it is to be established, then "transformation" and so on are stated. The Samkhyas are those who say that all things are one. The Samkhyas who abide in that saying, that is, show the nature of the self existing with some nature. How is it? It is said, "transformation, self, etc., by difference." The transformation self is the transformation nature. The word "etc." refers to nature, that is, the nature of non-mixture and suffering, etc., and mutual and self-nature.
