Those certainties, like that, are not dependent on others; for example, like the sky not being embodied. The consciousness, etc., which is the basis of the dispute, is also certain to be valid cognition, because it is the opposite of the pervasive factor. This is also not uncertain, because a dharma that does not arise from itself cannot be made by others. Just like the sky itself is not embodied. What has no power from itself, cannot be done by others. What is said is not like that. Here, with "all valid cognitions," etc., if it is possible to establish the meaning of the vow, then the refutation is begun by way of analysis. When asking what meaning is desired, it is answered: Measurable by others, knowable, etc. If it is only knowledge, then the valid cognition that measures the knowable is capable of completely measuring the amount of knowledge, because knowledge is what determines the knowable. If it is said to be the eye, etc., then they are able to generate knowledge of things as they are, and are also able to motivate, and are themselves able to understand objects beyond the senses; this should be included by the word "etc." For this, for a while, other reasonable views are explained, such as "without oneself," etc. In order to show this, it is said: Independent, unique, only. "By valid cognition itself," etc., valid cognition will not be established. "That itself," etc., is valid cognition itself; if the pervasive factor is reversed, then the pervaded will not remain. If it perishes like this, what fault is there? The answer is: The one who speaks of reason etc. The root is valid cognition itself, but it is taken away by dependence, because this contradicts its pervasive factor. Like this, independence pervades valid cognition itself, and when dependence, which contradicts what it pervades, exists, how can a place to exist be found? With "who," etc., it is shown that independence pervades valid cognition itself. "Who," etc., means "because of whom"; how is it established?

Thus it is said, stating "with dependence." The so-called "cannot be established" is because it would become limitless. If it relies on limitlessness, what fault would there be? It is said, "Having a reason of limitlessness," etc. Limitlessness, that is, wherever there is an uncertain reason, that is what it is called. This is how it is shown: Knowing consciousness, it is not enough just because it knows the meaning of what is to be known. If that is the case, for the moment, how can the debater, without understanding himself, take up the proof in order to make others understand? Starting with "That kind of meaning is," etc., he begins to refute. So, what do you think the meaning of "nature" is? Is it because of permanence, due to being without a cause, that it has nature? Or even if it is impermanent, it arises only from its own causes, when the wise establish nature, and afterwards it is not made by other causes, so it is said to have nature? This is considered with two kinds of distinctions. Regarding that, for the moment, the first distinction is not established. Is it other? Is it non-other? Or is it both? Or is it a nature that is neither? Thus, there are four possibilities. Regarding that, for the moment, the first is not established, because the relationship is not established, and it would become the fault of being non-existent. Because it has already been shown many times that "the power of all things themselves is non-other." In order to show this, it is said, "The desired result," etc. The cause that produces the result is power, and if that nature is not the self of the thing, then that thing will not become the agent. If that is the case, it will be thought that this will become the fault of being non-existent. If it is said to be the case of "non-other," then in this case, it will not become nature, because the thing itself arises from the power of the cause, and is itself impermanent, and the powers that are non-other from it also arise from the power of the cause, and will themselves become impermanent. If it is not so, then establishment and happiness themselves are other, so they will not become non-other.
