Therefore, it is unreasonable to establish certain fruits in the conventional sense, as this would undermine their definition. The statement "Whatever performs a function is the ultimate truth, and the rest is the conventional truth" is the definition of ultimate truth and conventional truth. If the confusion of the Vaibhashika school's assertions, even by individually examining and refuting them, the nature of what you hold is such that the Vaibhashikas do not accept it, to show this, it is said "cessations, etc." The term "cessations, etc." refers to two types of cessation: cessation through discriminative analysis and cessation not through discriminative analysis. What are they like? Because it is said "whatever has outflows, etc." Whatever is separated from all afflicted objects is discriminative analysis, because it is severed by wisdom, it is called cessation through discriminative analysis. Moreover, for each existing dharma, they are distinct. Explaining this is "each and every one," meaning that as many existing dharmas as there are, there are as many separated dharmas, which is the established tenet. For future dharmas, whatever is a permanent obstacle to arising, other than separation, is called cessation not through discriminative analysis, and this is not attained through discriminative analysis. What is it then? It is the lack of complete conditions. Therefore, it is called cessation not through discriminative analysis. As it is said: "Cessation through discriminative analysis is separation, each and every one. What creates a permanent obstacle to arising, other cessation is not through discriminative analysis." Although it is merely the nature of destruction, it is to show that even so, it is not confusion. It is said "because of no self-nature, etc.," combined with "not immediately produced." From where is it? Because of no self-nature. For example, merely preventing an existent thing is destruction, and space is merely untouchable. If this is the case, then both destruction and space are without self-nature, so how could these arise immediately? Because self-

Because there is no inherent existence, therefore it is meaningless. So what is the reason for the knowledge of destruction now? It is said, "Like the appearance of a fire wheel," and so on. The collection of appearances is the collection of appearances. The word "etc." includes the collection of light, etc. You did not say: Constant, not constant, That thing is not established for me. That which was said, said "the self-nature of meaning is one," and so on. Thus, regarding "impermanence should be examined," and so on, it is said, "merely abandoning its state," and so on. It is desired to establish that negating its state is impermanent. For that, again, lamps and so on are given as examples, because they possess what is to be established, from where is there nothing to be established? "Moment by moment," and so on, from the viewpoint of other schools, also suspect that the examples of lamps and so on do not possess what is to be established. Regarding that, the parts of flames, etc., go quickly to other places, they are not in a state of entering moment by moment. If everything went at once, why wouldn't it? It is said, "Because the later branches block the path," and so on. If those went, why wouldn't those nearby grasses and cottons, etc., burn? It is said, "Therefore, even if these go," and so on. It is not thought that the ability can only be obtained in the state of aggregation, but not in the state of dispersion. This is "merely permanent," and so on, to answer this. Even if this permanent is true, the example does not possess what is to be established. Like this, merely negating its state, it is considered impermanent, so it is said. Because lamps, etc., do not have its state, from where is there nothing to be established? Even so, when explaining the fault of commitment, there is also "another," and so on. "The ability has not diminished" refers to the branches of flames, etc. "As before" means like the state of decay, because there is no difference. If a difference is admitted, then at that time permanence itself will become decay, which is difficult to avoid, this is explained with "other," and so on, which is easy to understand.
