That is because it has already been refuted before. The term "from the aspect of reasoning" means "from the aspect of inference." The syllogism is: if something does not arise at a certain time, then at that time it is not that the causes and conditions are not complete, for example, even if there is a collection of factors such as form, light, and attention, if the eye is missing, eye consciousness will not arise. Even at the time of the arising of consciousness of a single letter, etc., the action that is manifestly called arising later will not occur, which means that the pervasive thing does not appear. Because it is pervasive that it will arise without the lack of causes and conditions. That is also because it does not exist here. However, if one merely negates the general lack of causes and conditions, then one is arguing on the basis of what has already been established. For example, sound is permanent, and even if it is a cause, because it lacks the causes and conditions that arise simultaneously, it is merely assumed that it will not generate other later arising knowledge. If, through the distinction of the cause called sound, one argues to negate those things that lack causes and conditions, then at that time, the reason is uncertain, and the example is also incomplete, because eye consciousness does not arise because of the lack of the cause of sound. What is the reason then? Is it because of the lack of the eye? This is not the case, because in general this is what needs to be argued, and it is not arguing on the basis of what has already been established. For example, if it is possible for a permanent thing to depend on other causes, then at that time it will become arguing on the basis of what has already been established. When is that itself impossible? That is because it has not been helped by it. If it helps, it will become dependent. If it is not like that, it will become too extreme. Therefore, if one admits that sound itself, which is independent, is the cause, then all the knowledge that arises from that, because there is no lack of causes and conditions, will arise constantly. If that does not exist, then the knowledge that does not arise shows that sound itself is incomplete, so how can it be arguing on the basis of what has already been established? In particular, even if one argues for the lack of causes and conditions, it is not certain, and the example is not incomplete. For example, this is what is intended to be expressed: even if something exists, what does not arise, that is not truly its cause, for example
